Hi guys

It has been pretty busy last few weeks, so I didn't have time to post this earlier. In last 18 days I have been shooting 8 races in 5 different place, so I have been on road for 14 days all together... and end of January, when this hectic will stop for a month (I'm luckily not going to Vancouver), is still faaaar away :)

But enough talk, so I rather just attach few photos. I picked a bit different ones, so let me know if you like them or not.

As I wrote, I'm interested to hear comments about this, so be honest and let me know if you think they suck. I'm more then happy to hear any kind of comment :)

Have great time, and more will come later on,

Primoz

I get what you were trying to do in # 3 and 6 and a kind of in #7. I think those work really well, but # 8 is just a bit too much. #'s 4 and 5 might have been more interesting had you gone just a bit higher on the hill to see more of the lower body. But I understand the limitations sometimes of the shooting areas that you are allowed to work in. The best shots are in the worst places for you to stand sometimes. I worked on the NCAA Ski Championships for CBS Sports a couple years back in Bozeman, MT and all the places we wanted to possition our cameras (TV) were not allowed by the course marshalls. So it was a matter of settling and fighting the still photogs that came later and popped up into our shot.
Freaking stillies! ;)

I like these primoz. There are only a few nitpicks on my end..

3-8 are a tad dark, with 3 being the darkest.

The tilts dont do too much for me but I understand what you were looking for, so in that area it is A-OK. I dont think number 8 works at all for what you want to accomplish however. too much dead space in the shot.

#1 is killer however. nice work

The first one is outstanding. Wish they were posted a bit larger so I could really see all the detail but still, a great capture. Hope you get some rest soon and be safe on your travels.

It wasn't problem with not being allowed to go higher (slalom is not really problematic when it comes to this, even on WC races). Those two gates were not primary gates I was shooting. Primary gate was for #4 (Kathrin Zettel in Lienz) was this:

IMAGE: http://www.photo.si/img/sport/spo_skiing_20091229nw_04328.jpg

and for #5 (Reinfried Herbst in Zagreb) this one:

IMAGE: http://www.photo.si/img/sport/spo_skiing_20100106nw_06364.jpg

But to be honest, I don't really like these photos all that much. It's really standard photo, which I have thousands of them every season. Photos I attached in my first post, were shoot 1, 2 or even 3 gates higher, and I was shooting them this way (more or less upper body with some leading lines across the photo) on purpose.
Personally I like them better then these two photos I just attached, but I know they are not photos everyone would like. That's why I put them here, to get some response and see if you guys like something like this or not. :)

So thanks for your response, I really appreciate it ;)

I agree about this. Idea felt cool for me when I was on the hill, but weather didn't play along (and photo was not really all that great on the end as it felt on the hill:)). It was snowing and contrast was low, so skier doesn't really stand out (it's also crappy background not just weather), and you have to be actually searching for it. And that's definitely not good thing.

Good for you :) On one side I would like too go too, but then again, covering Olympics is everything but fun. But on the end you have great experience and great reference. So yeah on one side I would love to go, but on the other I'm pretty happy I don't need to. :)

I really like the first two. With the second one, it is rare that a picture from the back of the athlete is so good.

Not really. Wanna know why? Because it's number 70 or something and noone cares about this :) One the other side, we sold quite few of these ones:

Nothing special of photo, but it's Lindsey, who fall just gate or two below me, and got injured. And that is news, while Esther Good falling is no news at all, even if photo is A LOT better then the one of Lindsey above.

From an artistic view I like #6(Nadja Kamer) above the best. The absence of the gates makes the viewer wonder about the course, the terrain and the skills necessary to complete this seemingly chaotic course set. Esther Good shot is the best for the bloopers show; and of course Lindsey photo is the most newsworthy.

He's probably got his trusted Canon 300 2.8; but not sure.

I like #1 the best by far. Great shot!

I'm not a fan of the wider ones. I see what you were trying to accomplish, but it doesn't really do much for me.

Do you shoot manual? It looks like some are quite underexposed, which could happen when shooting Av or Tv with snowy backgrounds. I find snow extremely hard to expose correctly.
