What was the most times you sent your stuff to Canon for same problem because it was still not working right after they fixed or they said it was in spec?

And, did they eventually fix it or give you a new one?

If you got a new one, how did you have to convince them or did they do it on their own?

My 7d is at Canon now for the 3rd freakin time to fix erratic AF issues. The 1st and 2nd time, I sent in only the body with a description of the problem. This time, being the 3rd time, I sent it in with a really detailed description, sample photos on CD, and my lens. I am pessimistic they will fix it this time because they weren't able to fix it the 1st and 2nd times. I think mine is just a lemon and it needs to be replaced but I don't know how many times I need to send it until they decide it is unrepairable and give me a new one.

Do you live in SoCal? If you do you can walk into their Irvine Service Center in person and show them what is going on.

unfortunately no. I live in SF so I'm no where close to it. I wish there was a service center up here though.

I have a pretty low tolerance for this sort of thing. I think THIS time I'd been on the phone DEMANDING to speak to a supervisor--and make it crystal clear how unhappy I was.

wow, and I thought VW was bad. "it's within spec"

Really!? I'm supposed to burn a quart of oil every 670 miles? You don't say!?

I sent my T1i to Adorama with a broken shutter and they sent me my money back. Saves me the hassle of selling the replacement :)

50 f/1.2, 4 times, and Canon finally acknowledged the problem and replaced it.

It wouldn't focus with outer AF points(mostly left ones). Freaky problem, but no excuse for sending it back "adjusted and in spec" 3 times. Another member with a similar issue suggested filing a report with the BBB. It seemed to help, getting me in touch with someone higher up at Canon.

Two. Once lens only - still off and then again with a body. After the second time it was corrected.

Looks like this is why Canon has enabled micro adjust - to save them the headache!

the CSR who helped me arranged to send it in the 3rd time, told me to call and speak to his supervisor when it arrives at the service center so he can get a senior tech to look at it. Tracking shows they recieved it yesterday, I called today, my camera is not in their system yet. They told me to try again tomorrow. vmad

I have a terrible feeling it will come to this. How easy was it to get Canon to send you a new one after reporting them to the BBB?

i wish it was that easy. It's not a constant front or rear focus. It is just inconsistent. Sometimes spot on, and other times terribly OOF. I confirmed this using controlled tests on a tripod and an easy to focus target.

Easy, once they received a copy of the report, contacted me, and had me ship the lens in one last time(the 4th). But, its a slow process. If you have a reproducible problem, and documented lack of service, you might as well file a report and see if you can get some action, while pursuing other suggestions above.
