I have some iron wood, the African version. I got it from the Bristol Britannia XM496 at Kemble when I became the elekky on it after it was donated to the trust there. It was holding the aircraft batteries in place!!! I have turned some of it and I await the right time to do owt else with what I have now. It's the holy hell on HSS turning tools!


My ambition for a good while is to grow old disgracefully. So far my wife tells me that I am doing really well!

Yes I guess it doesn't get its name from being soft!. I think there are a few species called ironwood around the world. There's even another quite unrelated species (an Acacia) with that name in the Northern Territory, down in the dry country of central Australia.

Before it snowed and during today's snow, which was originally forecast to be an inch and ended up being around 8 inches.

For some reason I love Cedar Trees. These are Cedars of Lebanon. Well, they are Cedars, and they are in Lebanon. Oklahoma that is.
