This scruffy looking dude was watching me intently as I snuck towards the fence to grab some shots of animals drinking in Grant's Farm, St. Louis, MO.

But, what is he?

Straight from the camera....no pp whatsoever, hence the soft look.

Straightening...lol. Every time I straighten the horizon, I hang the picture crooked.

i think this is right. i think i remember the guides talking about Scottish Highlands.

They also have a couple other versions of longhorn cattle. we all think of Texas Longhorns, but they only have a couple of those. The larger herd is something else. And, they have some strange chinese yak type animal that lives in swampier lands. I rarely see those because they don't come close to the fence due to it being away from any of the creeks....lol.

Thanks for the ID.

Looks like highland cattle to me... shaggy horns and long hair pretty much defines the breed. 8-)

they can run, too. when i got up to the fence, they got skittish. this one and a blonde one kind of got indecisive about which way to run (the trail by the pond was blocked by other longhorn cattle), and they kind of panicked.

man, they can run faster than you would think.

I love photos there. I've gotten several keepers, including one of the Aldabran tortoises. Very fun place, and you can't knock the free beer tasting at the end. :)

Its a female. Female Highland cattle have their horns pointing up whereas the chaps have theirs in a downward direction.
