I have just started to use a Mac computer running Snow Leopard, and have installed Elements 8. I find the print setup in Elements very basic and have not been able to find any settings for print quality and print media, i am using a Canon IP5000 printer with the latest drivers and able to set all these options using other programs.

Any advice please.

What software have you been using up 'till now? Most "popular" photo software used on the PC is also available for the Mac, so you could get started with DPP, but a very strong "starting" software is Photoshop Elements 8 for the Mac.

Aperture is a Mac-only program that contends with Lightroom as a good workflow app built around a Raw processor with good organizational tools, but take your time in choosing. You can get free trials for all these things.

You can also pick up books which cover digital photography including the basics of post-processing which will give you an idea of what can be done.

I have had elements 6 and elements 8 on the PC(both trials) and now have elements 6(license came with the printer) on the Mac.

Quite frankly the only thing I saw in elements 8 that was missing is HDR(they called it something else in elements like multi-exposure or some such) and I just don't need it enough to pay for the upgrade to elements 8.

Check first if you need a new printer or graphics tablet; a lot of them come with a full license for elements 6.

I'm still running and using PSE 6 on this computer exclusively, even though I have LR 2.4, and CS4. I don't do much PP. I have 7 and 8 on other computers, just don't need more than 6.
