I found this leaf today while taking a walk .. the colors were so vibrant, I just had to pick it up so I could photograph it.

Hey Carla, long-time no see!
And what a lovely leafy-type chum you've found :D
Glad to see you're still into the photography, and improving all the time.

Happy New Year to you, too!
More of a PM reply this, but thanks, we're all doing well here!
Sadly though, my Dad died very suddenly last October, so our first Xmas-in-England trip had a shadow over it....
Meanwhile, I had a look at your other thread, and my fave was the B&W with the dude fishing. Love the angle of the ground as it sloped into the water! Really excellent composition, in my humble opinion!

Oh....Missus Skygod is calling me to help with the dinner! Bad timing or what?!
;)

Catch you soon....

So sorry to hear about your Dad, Simon .. that's exactly how my dad went too several years ago. But glad to hear that you, the Missus and the rest of the fam are doing well.

Thank you so much for the compliments -- I'm just plugging away and shooting as often as I can and having lots of fun doing it. Now my dilemma is whether to upgrade my "walkabout" lenses (the Tamron 18-250mm and Canon 17-85mm) to something with better quality glass .. just can't figure out which lens :p

I may go back to that lake this weekend with my Sigma 120-400mm and see what I can do with that! Take care and keep in touch :)

Hey Carla, thanks for the kind words and so sorry to hear you went through the same. It sucks more than anything I could ever imagine....but we must get on!
As to lenses, can't help you there as I'm going down the prime route from here on.
Got the 50mm f1.4, next come the 200Lf2.8, then the 35L or 50L.....can't decide which.....but I'm ADDICTED to bokeh! Love it!!!

I hear ya, Simon .. it was definitely sad to lose them [our dads] so fast and unexpectedly, but life must go on and it does.

I have a couple of primes, but I'm so used to the convenience of a zoom .. I'll definitely opt for an L or equivalent lens when I'm ready to upgrade -- there's just too many choices, lol. I'm addicted too -- it seems like I'm spending all of my off time shooting, reviewing, organizing and editing.. but I love it! Take care you!

Thank you all, BDDigitalImages, fireguy_ed and LynC .. my subject was at its prime when I took shot #1. I'd sure like to know what type of tree that leaf came from as we don't get much color here (So. Calif.) as far as the change of seasons!

Hey Carla, I know exactly what you mean about the "convenience" of a prime, and not to raise the ugly debate about zooms v primes where it's not needed, these days, I like a mixture of both. At the longer end, my 100-400 is so versatile for what I like to shoot (which often means hawks if I can find them) and at the UWA end, the 10-22 is astounding: at 10mm though the distortion can be too much, so being able to twist it down towards the 22mm end is great!
But from 22mm to 100mm.....?
I just love the bokeh from primes.
OK, so my next prime will be the 200mm f2.8 L, but after that will be the 35L and then the 50L (assuming my f1.4 survives until then...if it dies, then I'll get the 50L before the 35L).
Adding the 7D with the 200L will mean two bodies carrying two lenses at the same time, which for me is best.
But everyone is different.....
Anyway, want to look at your next pics! TTFN!
:D

I'm starting to think my next lens should be an ultra-wide .. I'll check out the 10-22!

It's YUMMY! But has a steep learning-curve!
It's also my least used lens, but when I want it, I'm so glad I bought it.
Oh and the build quality of the 10-22 is very high. Next to the 17-40f/4, I'd have to say there's not that much in it, considering the 17-40 is an L.
