A couple of living things in beautiful disguise. Both taken during GAPS2 in September 2008 in South Africa.

Unidentified grasshopper on the red stones of Augrabies National Park.

It's pretty amazing at how well camouflaged these critters can get. Nice shots.

Did you notice how the rabbit trusts its camo so much that it's quite openly looking and listening me.

Love the textures in both, especially the rabbit shot.

Hi Olli,

I am not sure if you realise what you have photographed in the Karoo. These rabbits are very much on the endangered list.

Regards (and to to your wife too)

Wow!

Bill, now when you mentioned it, I faintly remember that I read about this Riverine Rabbit in the Karoo NP info center (or similar), but had already forgotten it. Big thank for the ID and bringing up the good memories.

I'm sure you've had several great trips to those fascinating parks after our visit. (We are still planning our second with my better half who is sitting here next to me and sending her regards back to you and your wife, me too :), still remembering your hospitality.)

Are you sure it's a riverene rabbit? It just looks like a normal hare to me.
