Not really

Our shortest day was a month ago; so it's hello sunshine for us and bye-bye sunshine for you
Oh! and great shots BTW

I forgot to mention our winters normally consist of days of around low 20C, never straying below 10 on a cold wet day, so we only say bye bye to an intense sun over winter. Still warm enough on a warm day (just) for a quick dip to make you feel alive!
Having said that, I'd love to live at least one nice snowy winter before I vacate the planet. Some of the white winter shots I have been seeing all over the forum lately are awesome!
Thanks for the feedback everyone, I was pleasantly surprised at the cheapo nifty. 99% of the shots I took that arvo turned out acceptably in focus. It is super slow to focus sometimes, and has even completely missed normal static shots, but I am starting to realise it's "ways" the more I use it.
I actually prefer this lens over the 17-85 kit lens at the moment. I have to move my feet a bit more of course, but it's teaching me not to be lazy, which in turn is rewarding me with a new style of photo.
I purposely left the 100-400 at home too as I wanted to try and get in close and try some different angles to the standard zoomed in front on shots I tend to stick to when shooting my kids at the beach.
btw, you guys have been too kind to me so far, I thought someone would have brought up my stupid shadow in the first shot.....
