I think ISO 1600 probably just isn't enough for shooting in gyms without strobes. Our home gym has relatively good lighting but I still have to shoot around ISO 4000 because the stands and walls are dark blue. 7D gripped / Rebel XS / 70-200 f/2.8 L IS / 50mm f/1.4 / and some other stuff

The exposure is perfect for my tastes, and the noise reduction smooths everything out to nice effect. The refs expression is funny and you even have a fellow photog in the background.
