In a night shot I took, I noticed horizontal streaks in the background noise pattern (sky area). This was a handheld shot f5.6 1/15s with a 24-105 f/4L. Is this something that is related to the sensor property or firmware? Thanks for the inputs.

What camera? It looks like plain old high ISO sensor noise to me.

the title says 5DMII lol

But that is because of the high iso, and the settings

Yes, but why horizontal and not random distribution?

5DII = fixed pattern noise. Actually many Canon cameras exhibit pattern noise. There is a thread here discussing fixed pattern noise. I'll see if I can find it.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

Here is the discussion, much of the thread is silly but burried in between the silly posts is some decent info.

I'm on firmware 1.1.0 There's a new 1.2.4 firmware just released but I'm not sure if it will help.

Keep in eyes, that the highest "real" ISO of the 5D2 (i.e. the one based on a specific analog gain) is 3200. ISO 25600 is simply "pushing" the 3200 result in-camera by THREE stops.
