5.9 because hdds are artificially limited to 5.9. Otherwise, like all decent i7 systems, it's 7.3+. W7 scores are fine for describing certain things, but pretty pointless for comparing similar processors/gpu since the tests are very basic and not very good at comparing systems, especially near the 7.9 limit. Also have to note that the index is non-linear, so tripling the score generally doesn't mean tripling processor power, it usually means about 20-30 times the power.

If you want to check how good your system is, check out something like geekbench or sandra, or pcmark and other gaming/multimedia benches.

yey! I was thinking 3.4-3.8 OC since 4.2ghz usually gets you 7.8/7.9

Kind of sad how W7 index doesn't count more than four threads, and is clock speed dependent more than the number of cores.

Well... Windows 7/Vista index is kind of a joke IMO. I would rather run 3D Mark if it was free like it use to be. Now it is a 1 run trial or something like that?

It's useful for one thing, determining if all of your drivers are properly installed, especially on a brand new computer. I just built a Core i7 desktop in November and used the WEI to try and make sure everything was running. It kept crashing and totally screwing up my computer when playing HD Video, which thanks to google led me to a motherboard BIOS flash which solved the problem. Odd, yes, but very useful!

I am surprised my graphics rated so high. I have two cards (8600/9600) both are originally supplied with passive heat sinks (I hate that fan whine) so I expect they are slower cards. The detailed report says the score is for the primary card (9600).

The primary harddrive score is all well and good but it is my data drive that is killing me. I wish they gave a subscore for it.

7.9, and today's top level computers easily exceed that.

All my scores are ~7 except for the graphics which is ~4 :(

I "upgraded" to the 512MB ATI Radeon HD graphics card, but I guess it's not good enough ;)

Unless you are talking about a Radeon HD 2600, you should be getting higher scores. The 3450 in my c2quad tower is over 5, my 4850 gets 7.3. Check your drivers, they are probably old or non-existent.
