Hi, I honestly did not know whom to ask or where to ask so i'm posting on here!

I'm trying to get a fish eye/macro lens and i'm seeing a lot of x.25 and x.40 or x.42. What are the differences and which do you recommend?

I have a Canon EOS 1000D (xs); efs 18-55mm.

Please help me! Thank you!

Fish eye and macro are quite different sorts of lens. The first thing for you to do is decide which you want.

Fish eye lenses provide a very wide angle of view, but transform straight lines into curves.
Macro lenses allow images to be taken where the size of the image of the subject formed on the sensor is "lifesize" or greater.

Frankly, I think what you've found is probably rubbish.

I suspect it's a modifier lens that screws onto the front of an existing lens. I'd guess that the x.25 and x.40 are the amounts by which the focal length of your base lens is changed. Nothing to do with macro.

If you can post a link to whatever it is that you are considering, we can give you better information.

Well, what he has found is a fisheye effect lens that needs a diopter like lens to work so it comes with both. I see them all over the place on amazon and ebay. Waste of money plain and simple. If you have $40 to waste, then go for it. It might be fun for a little, but eventually you will tire of the low IQ. I have played with the diopter "macro" part before, they actually kinda work (well.. as well as a something that cheap can work).

If you are looking for macro, I would recommend getting some Kenko Extension tubes. http://cgi.ebay.com …ories?hash=item439cbb296a (external link)

If you want quality photos for fisheye... you will have to fork out some money.
