C&C welcome and encouraged

They're nice photos, I just think there is nothing that makes them stand out.
Sorry to say that, afterall its just my opinion and we have all been there.

It's a snapshot.

Not a 'picture', I think that's why there are few comments.

So what am I doing wrong?

dlands, it's not unusual on a Sunday to have slow responses. You don't need to bump the thread for 24 hours is standard here.

Your shots are nice and sharp. That's good. What is missing is the drama. You probably used your 18-55 for these shots, but at f4, you're not getting that great shallow DoF. Go manual and shoot at f2 and 1/1000, ISO as low as it can go. See what you get.

And maybe get close to the ground so it's more dramatic, a different view than just straight on.

I have similar experiences here.....most of the time I get little or no response to anything I post. Get used to it and keep on posting. Sooner or later you will post something that people will have to say something about. I assume that the reason I get few comments is that my shots are rather "average" in comparison to some of the pros in here. I just try to read the c&c that others get to try to improve my stuff. I know I am improving from the reactions I get from the people who I am shooting pics for.

Sorry you haven't had any comments on your shots. But it is Sunday, and that always seems a little slow. As for me, # 1 looks like it could use a reflector or fill and his expression looks like he looked at his heart monitor and was stunned. # 2 I like the angle of the shot, but again maybe a little fill light. All of the others would have been better with less DOF as Suzy suggested. I look forward to the future shots that you will make.
Suzy, I think your comments and your willingness to help is fab!

Many thanks Suzy,

I was a tad nervous on the day although it was a friend as I wanted to get some results for him.

I had gone out with the idea of doing ambient light shots and fill flash, as in a lot of the seniors shots on here but as it was early morning it's a lot brighter than the evening ones :) so that did not work out so well but that was the reason for the higher f stop but it would not have been high enough for what I was trying to achieve anyway!

I had borrowed a 28-135 for this shoot which looks like it may become my next purchase.

As I say I think I just got a bit flustered and was aware of his time so I forgot the basics and did neither one thing or the other :o he was actually quite pleased anyway and afterwards said he was a bit nervous as well so we might well shoot again having learnt some lessons.

His watch was his Garmin gps he uses to log the miles :)

Again thanks for the comments and also to Point-n-shoot-n, travelin man, foeduck

I liek the third shot out of this bunch, a tighter crop might just of given it that little more drama and sense of movement.
Its hard when the tog and the model are edgy, but try it again andd give yourselves plenty of time.
Trying to ruch these things doesnt really help so the more time you have the better for all really.
If you can arrange more time then try soem candid shots and show your results, often the case its a good ice breaker and calms things down a bit, which puts everyoen at ease.
It aint easy and perhaps others have different views on hwo to play things do what works for you.

Since you had image editing ok I thought I would take a crack at the third image. I liked the logo on the back and saw potential. Let me know what you think! Good luck in the future. Just because you don't get comments doesn't mean you don't have a good shot!
