Hi everyone.

I'm hoping you could help me. I am looking for a wide angle zoom/prime lens to use on my eos 1 (film). I would like to have the cheapest option and I would also probably buy the lens second hand. The lens does not need to be a Canon lens and I have seen some old Sigma and Cosina lenses of interest.

Could anyone suggest a good cheap solution for me?

Thanks!

I had good luck with my Canon EF 20-35mm f/3.5-4.5 USM. Nice and sharp, good build, fast USM. I just sold it for $155 as I needed the money to put towards my S90 purchase.

The 28-70mm 3.5-4.5. Both the Mark I and II are optically very good small and easy to carry, originally made for film cameras. Often called a "poor man's L". They run about $80 to $150 on the used market

I would second the choice of an EF 28-70mm f/3.5-4.5. I was using it today on my 5D for general purpose, and I am always amazed at how good this little lens is. As long as the rotating and retracting filter thread don't bother you, or the high pitched focus noise, it is excellent value.

For a bit more money, you might like the EF 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5 USM with its fast ring USM focusing and 24mm wide end. It depends on your priorities and budget.

For a prime, perhaps the EF 28mm f/2.8? It is pretty good and quite low cost. Used can be under $200. It would double as a good normal lens on your 450D too. If you have a bit more budget, you could look at the EF 24mm f/2.8 but it would cost you more.
