Hello!

Got a late Xmas present from my sister in the form of a $100 gift card to B&H.

Now what to buy......

First I was looking at filters, but they do not sell the one I want: Marumi CPL

Next I thought, Fong Lightsphere...they are out of the cloud for the 430ex: C3

WTF!

So now I am thinking cleaning supplies, a good rocket blower and maybe some disposable lens tissues...not sure.

So, help me blow a hundo at B&H, going over a tad is ok...;) My gear is in my sig....

Thanks!

Maybe some Kenko extension tubes?

Can I use these with all my current lenses?

Have never done macro, but am intrigued by it, not enough to buy a dedicated lens...

Hmm....

My suggestion: Go with the kenko tubes, which will be much more fun than cleaning paper and a rocket blower. ;) You can also pick up a lenspen for $8 which, IMHO, is much better than papers anyway.

Consider a bag, remote release for the shutter, extra battery, lens cleaning tissue/solvent/lenspen/rocket blower. Lens hood for the non L lens, sto fen for the flash, rechargeable batteries for the flash, maybe a light tripod like the slik 400dx.

I personally would not buy filters from BH as they are quiet expensive there.

Next I thought, Fong Lightsphere DONT DO IT- they are overpriced and fairly inneffective in most situations...they are out of the cloud for the 430ex: C3

I would agree with the bag, remote release, batteries and blower.

I would only buy a good tripod though (Manfrotto, Gitzo, etc) and if you want light go for CF. You get light and cheap tripods or light and quality tripods but no light, cheap and quality tripods. A good tripod is an investment, a cheap one is only delaying the purchase of the good one imho.

Thanks for the great suggestions guys.

I have a bag: LowePro FastPack 350, and a smaller lowepro, I forget the model number.

I have 3 extra batteries, so am good there as well, good suggestion though.

I have lens hoods for all my lenses.

Have a tripod: Slik Pro 340DX, not the best, not the worst. I got this due to the extreme light weight and ease of backpacking with it, has done well thus far.

Remote is a possibility. Why Canon does not have the IR on the 40 and 50D blows my mind...I would prefer a wireless release.

Interesting take on the Fong Lightsphere, possibly the only negative remarks I have read about it, other than it falling off from time to time and that is usually due to user error.

I agree on the filters, will likely go with eBay or 2filter.com for that.

Think I am going to go with the tubes. They seem to retain their value well, so I can always sell them off here if Macro is not for me.

Any other suggestions, keep 'em coming!

I'd go Kenko tubes, or at least a reversing ring. Down and dirty macro!

Lightsphere has gotta be a profitable business, selling plastic for gold.

Add $350-400 and get a good tripod... nothing other than lights and camera
get used more than my tripod. I leave sensor cleaning to the Canon people who
come to setup booth at work and clean the pro's cameras, then I just drop it
there and leech off them, heheh. Obviously not everyone gets free cleaning, but
still think sensor cleaning is not as high priority as a good tripod.

Why not a nifty fifty? If not that, go with the tubes.
