this is a useless post other than to praise this S90 camera

i just picked up an s90 for my wife and i was playing around with it for a while.... i must say, this is an absolutely outstanding point and shoot.

i knew it was supposed to be pretty darn good but this camera blows me away. for a p&s camera, usable iso800 shots is AMAZING. heck i think i'll sell my old G10. it KILLS my G10 in terms of noise.

secondly, the "AUTO" mode is outstanding. because of the fast f/2 lens, it rarely uses flash and produces a gorgeous natural light photo. i'm really impressed.

thirdly, the new ring control is quite handy. definitely something canon should include in all higher end point & shoots.. i'm surprised they didnt add this on the G11... get rid of the stupid option to put a lousy lens adapter.

canon is really onto something with this new s90.

Mine is in transit! It's replacing my trusty SD1000 which I sold to my brother, who then gave his beat up SD1000 to my mom. Everyone wins! (and I spend $400!) It will complement my 30D nicely and honestly with f/2, IS, and a usable ISO 800+, it may even be the preferred camera in some cases. I'll post my impressions when it arrives. Enjoy yours, this camera is a modern day classic.

Now, post some samples!

How did you get it for $350? I looked and it's $389. Was it on special or is there a coupon?
Thanks Dave

Not having an adapter is the only thing that keeps me away of this camera

I received mine from Amazon yesterday, but it's going back for an exchange. Why? It's used! All smudged up, hairline scratches on the LCD, missing the USB cable, no protective "sock" for the S90 body. It has two minor defects, a stuck red pixel on the LCD and the top plastic panel flexes near the flash. I'm having fun demoing it though. I'm trying to adjust the "My Colors" option to give me a DSLR-like output with natural colors and minimal jpg over-sharpening artifacts. Any tips?

Better start using B&H! ;)

A replacement is on its way from a different location. The vendor is still Amazon.com though. What are the odds of two in a row? *Knocks on simulated woodgrain desk*

Here are some ISO 1600 samples.

S90 @ 28mm equiv, f/2.0, IS:

30D @ 28mm equiv, f/3.5, IS:

IMAGE: http://i47.tinypic.com/4l3rd1.jpg

The shutter speed for the S90 was 1/50 sec while the shutter speed of the 30D was 1/13. I could've used ISO 400 if I had desired, maybe even ISO 200. The f/2 lens is incredible like this :)

Haha.. nope. Just an 800 x 600/533 resize. At pixel level the S90 is pretty messy but it still manages to resolve almost as much detail as the 30D.

s90 is good but not THAT good . i used to have a 30D and it was a really decent is0 1600 performer.

Of course it's not going to be near DSLR quality but for a compact its among the best. Considering my SD1000 was atrocious above ISO 400 I consider this ISO 1600 image, fuzzy as it may be, a huge improvement. With my current equipment, my S90 allows me to shoot at lower ISOs than my 30D for an equivalent scene which really evens out the playing field. If I had the 17-55mm f/2.8 IS, that would be different.
