I've agreed to help with a video for my church with the understanding that I'm a novice and this will be a "best effort" production.

For equipment I'll have a 7D with a 17-55 2.8 lens and a tripod. The video will be shot indoors but lighting should be OK.

Question 1: I'm pretty sure the 7D's internal mic isn't going to cut it. What sort of mic do you recommend? I was thinking of renting a shotgun mic (like this (external link)) but I'm pretty clueless on audio.

Question 2: What shutter speed is recommended for video? I was thinking I should use the same shutter speed as frame rate (i.e. 1/30 or 1/60). Is that correct?

Thanks

Are you shooting with 60hz lamps or 50hz?

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

60hz

Well, if you shoot 24p, 1/30 or 1/60 would help, if 30fps, won't see much difference unless you are going for production level quality.
