Interesting, never attended one of these as a photographer but was told the camp down the road from me going on is closed to the public and complex pretty well locked down during the camp. Pirates have always been good at that complex though.

Yeah apparently Pirates don't mind which was pretty cool, and there complex is great. I especially like the huge green walls on the two fields that make for some really nice backgrounds.

Great tack sharp shots. I wonder if biting your tongue while playing ball makes you better? :)

Just act like you belong there!

The first time I got into a concert backstage, I came strait after work (back in my teen years at Pizza Hut). I walked up to security with my pizza hut shirt on and a box of pizza. I never said I was delivering, never said who ordered, but they let me get right in! I ended up having pizza with some of the roadies and stayed just off stage for the entire show. I hear you can actually do this anywhere, even the White House! :)

Ha... That seemed to work for me while I was there. I was sitting and taking photo's in this one section and the staff came over and kicked everyone out of the section but me :p I did not even notice until I saw the area was roped off and everyone who was standing around the area before was gone.

Until you're arrested.

Sometimes the lines are blurred a bit. I was using an EXTREME Example. Being a stupid teen and sneaking into concerts is one thing, but getting your camera into locations is another. So here’s a more serious response.

Any time I’m going to a sports event I bring my camera. If I’m there as a spectator (not commissioned or don’t have credentials) I try to find out the camera policy and get a name and position of the person I spoke to. I always make sure that it’s a higher-up that I can refer too when getting hassled by the rent-a-cops that work the gate. Always be prepare to be hassled at the gates. It’s just part of the deal. Be professional, mature and polite and 99% of the time things will work out ok. I don’t try to break the rules that I’ve confirmed as it’s not usually worth having them check your bag and saying that you can’t bring it in. Then you have to walk back to your car to put a $1000+ lens in there for someone to steal.

If you want to chance it and want to get the lens in (and you have a kid)… diaper bags are awesome for lens bags! :)

Ultimately there are some places that will let you shoot without credentials and some that will not. I know that most (that I’ve been to at least) major and minor league baseball stadiums here in Cali will allow you to bring in almost any sized lens. As long as it doesn’t interfere with another spectator’s viewing and as long as you don’t plan on using a tripod. With the local single-A ball team in my area, you can usually nab tickets just above the dugouts for $20 or so. The dugout with a bean bag under the lens works as a great tripod!

Sorry to hijack your thread Luke. Amazing photos as always my man! Throw your photoMOB in the sig son!

This won't work at a real game or even a ST game.

I know. Just thought it was funny how they roped it off and never even said anything to me.
