Oh man, I feel your pain, I felt the same way when i first got my 55-250mm. heheh
There's only one way to do this, and that is to get closer, or get another lens that will.
These would be really good shots if you had the lens, or, the closeness needed, but that's not likely to happen, getting closer, that is. :)
It'll be expensive, but I think that is what you'll have to end up doing, and I know that ain't good news. heh

Nice shots though.

What I felt I had to do was get a longer lens, and I went with a 100-400mm L, and that still isn't sufficient to get the long shots. heheh
At 50 yards, mine doesn't cut it, and with an extender (1.4) it gets blurry, so I don't care for those.
The only way I get closer is to hide in a 'hide', and that has it's own problems, but...
25 yards is about as far as I like to get with that lens.
I kind'a wish I would've went with the 400mm L now, from what I have seen, it's a lot sharper.

Not to take away from your shots though, 'cause it's been years since I have even seen an eagle, much less shot one, and I haven't got a chance to, yet...

Robert,

That's a GOOD idea, I kind'a jumped the gun when I bought, I really thought I knew what I was doing after reading everybody's reviews on here and elsewhere, or so I thought, then it seemed as though all I read was everyone wanted or had a 400mm L... heheh
I don't really regret buying mine, it does come in handy having a zoom, but I do want the quality, and I (think I can) see the differences in them now.
Really, don't be like me, take your time. heheh
Also, watch the Ads here in the For Sale section, that has to be the fastest moving place in the world, the turnover there is crazy, and good deals are to be had all day, every day.
I also trust those (for the most part) there too.

Good luck on getting whatever, and when you do decide, just sell your lens there and get another, it'll probably go in minutes.

No substitute for long glass I'm afraid, sadly money is a requirement, but the Sigma 150-500 which I use is a godd value alternative to the more expensive Canon 100-400 if the bdget is tight, plus the additional reach of course :)
