I am shooting a very small wedding this weekend and borrowed a 420ex flash for my 50D. I've been trying to find a diffuser with no luck and I'm afraid if I order one it won't be here in time. I'm in upstate NY. Anything I can use in place of a diffuser to soften the flash? or does anyone have one I can borrow/buy and can ship quickly?

If you have no time to order and wait, one of the best DIY solutions is this:

A simple 3x5 white index card can be rubber banded to the flash head to use as a diffuser. My only additional suggestion would be to mount the diffuser on the short side of the flash and then it would work better in portrait orientation.

Even if you have time to order one...I still wouldn't. This DIY solution is great (and cheap). I've been using this for a year now. Just go to WalMart or Michaels and get a sheet of white foam and black foam and stick them together. Cost - $2...time - 5 minutes.

Ah, that reminds me why I've never ordered or purchased one.... :)

I made one using white and black foam. Since I use velcros for my filters, I simply added a velcro to the diffuser and I don't have to worry about rubber bands.
