I wouldn't mind having a backup bodyfor my XSi and I have a chance to buy a mint 10d for a couple of hundred bucks.I know that the 10D is out
performed in many areas by the XSi but is there anything that the 10D does better than the XSi or would I be buying an older camera that
is just a backup? Also is there any weather sealing on the 10D?

Thanks

I can't comment on the 10D performance but you have to factor in a few bucks for compact flash memory cards. Why not get a XS as a backup, can't be that far off in price. It uses the same cards, batteries, grip, etc... so you'd be ahead in that department plus you won't have to deal with switching between configurations.

10D is built a like a tank compared to the xsi haha. It will feel a lot different in your hands. But the 10D goes up to iso 3200 dont know how clean it is. not sure if xsi goes up that high, besides that I dont know if 10D does anything better.

The 10D won't take EF-S lenses, so you may want to find a used 20D instead. Given what you have, it seems like your money might be better spent elsewhere unless "couple hundred bucks" means $200 or less. For example, do you have an external flash?

Buy a 20D or 30D instead and use that as your main camera.. Then use your XSi as a back up..

This 10D comes with three cards (don't know size) and has only taken about 250 shots.Maybe I'll put the $200 towards a 1D or a flash.

The 10D is a nice camera but, after using a newer camera, you will probably get very frustrated by it's very slow startup, writing, and review speeds.

only thing a 10D will do better than XSi I can think of: save space on your hard-drive...

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

You want to buy at least a 20D.

10d is a beast. Its slow, really slow, which will cause some shots to be missed. Has good IQ though.

I used the 10D for wedding photography when it first came out with great results before upgrading to 1 series. It is more than adequate as a back up body and if you can get a good price on one I would recommend going for it. You can get a 20D as others recommended (which is a great camera btw...), or you can save your cash for a lens that you may get more use out of. My experience with back up bodies is they didn't get a lot of use!

Based on your lens line up, the only one that won't work on the 10D will be the 18-55, other than that your good to go.

Good luck and happy bargain hunting!

My first DSLR. It's slow in many ways but it produces beautiful images with better colors out of the camera than my 30D. AF seems to be more reliable on my 30D as well as faster. If you can get the 10D for $200 or less, go for it.

Agreed with everyone else, might as well find you a cheap 20D, or 30D.

The 10D was my first camera, and I loved that thing... Wish I still had it for sentimental reasons. It was a beast, but terribly slow.
