Nice work Christian...

Good to see the youngsters skating with their heads up. Don Cherry would be proud!

Thanks guys! This was shot in our local Junior A team arena which has decent lighting and clean glass to shoot through. 1-5 and 7 were shot thru glass from position in corners of rink. 6 and 8 from penalty box over glass. The low position in corners was great for getting "heads up" shots as they came to net.

Great eyes in every shot. Nice framing. Great coloring, no yellow tint at all that one usually gets in a rink.

I was a bit surprised that the 50D showed that much noise at ISO 2500 (but that is such a nit pick). This are all superb.

Especially if you are shooting through rink glass.

Magnificent! Please give me advice. Let me know your settings please. These were taken with a Rebel XS and a 70-200mm 2.8 IS from the running track way above the ice. Clearly I need to get lower and adjust my white balance. I recently bought a 7D too so that should help. You can see my pics here: http://www.flickr.com …4/sets/72157623063333075/ (external link)

McKinley:
7D should help, but you need to get lower and shoot tighter and then crop tighter in post processing. It looks like your rink is dark so I assume you will need high ISO (3200). I'd suggest starting in Manual mode with 1600 ISO and 1/400 shutter speed and with aperture at f2.8. Then adjust your ISO as needed (up) so that you are getting at least +1 stop over on your exposure (to allow for all the white ice). In dark rinks I find 1/400, ISO 3200 and f2.8 is bare minimum. Try not to let shutter speeds drop below 1/400 even for little tykes hockey. You may even give ISO 6400 a try if needed as 7D should handle that OK. You may also need to adjust photos in post processing..usually I have to boost exposure a touch plus some other tweaks.

As to shots here. most are 1/400, ISO 2500 and f2.8 or f3.2 with 50D and 70-200f2.8L.
