Sounds like first amendment violation to me.

Just more narrow-minded, pin-headed bureaucratic nonsense that only succeeds in punishing innocent citizens.

You think it's hard on us, the poor transit cops will have to quit chewing their donuts and slurping coffee so they can count shutter sounds.

Anyone want to take bets as to how long it takes before the CTA backs down from this?

These type of issues only come to a head when a photographer takes photos, gets hell from the government, fights, and either wins or looses in court with media coverage. If the photographer wins, the government backs off. If the government wins, we can drop the illusion that we are "free".

Local photographers in the area should orchestrate one of those 'spontaneous gatherings' of people with their cameras, both still and video, and swarm one location after another shooting thousands of pictures. Alternatively, people should call 911 every time they see someone taking a picture and therefore overload the whole ridiculous system.

One of the features that defines Chicago, for better or worse, is the 'El' train. It's an icon of sorts and a object of much photography.

Yeah, he's a writer from Chicago.

Please don't. As a firefighter I'd hate to think that someone burned to death because folks were trying to prove a point over a policy that will be ignored by the traveling public anyway.

The CTA stays consistent with US and UK regulations. However, this thread is pointing to the rail transit in the City of Chicago.

I hate that sign they put up but on the other hand I understand the reasons for it. I would hope that everyone writes to their elected representatives to let their views known, irrespective or their country of residence. Moaning about it and belittling the transit cops on a forum may allow us to vent our feelings but we should be working towards making changes.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

I was asked to move along by train employees telling me I cannot take photographs of trains at the depot, safety violation.
My first hobby was firearm collecting, I shot matches with my friends and family, went to the range regular, became an NRA instructor and began writing for an online gun magazine (m1911.org). If you think your first amendment rights are in poor shape you should see how they treat the second.
