Hey guys. I'm looking for a lens with more or less the same focal length as a point and shoot, if you know what I mean.. Basically a lens that'll pull off certain things that most SLR lenses can't--self portraits. What do you guys suggest?

Camera gear: Canon 5D Mark IV | Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L II | Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L II | Lights: Elinchrom Ranger RX Speed AS

I have no idea what you mean.

I have done self portraits with every lens I own except the 100-300.

What cam do you have? My 17-55mm kit lens with my XT works just fine, unless you need something super wide.

You have a 17-55, that definitely should work on the wide end. Also, if you want self portrait put your camera on a tripod with a box or something filling in you you, then get a wireless remote and insta photo =)

Do you mean you want to hold the camera in one hand and take a photo of yourself?

If so, have you tried your Tamron 17-50?

Oh, I don't have a 17-55. I have a 17-50.. well had, but some idiot stole it. Anyway...

Yeah, but self portrait, I mean a whim of the moment picture, kind of like.. I have a friend I want to be in the picture.. I can't really set a tripod up in time, haha.

What point and shoot?
Most P&S cameras have a crop factor about 6X, your t1i has a crop factor of 1.6
If the front of a standard point and shoot is 6.-30mm then it is a 36-180mm lens. Meaning a 22-112mm lens on your DSLR. You also have to take into consideration MFD so if a lens can only focus as close as 4' and you want to hold it and shoot you better have long arms:D. You also have to think about distortion. The 10-20 is a great hold and shoot yourself lens. You just come out looking a funny

Use the timer mode and any lens and save yourself a headache

I never, Not once claimed to read your post...

Just about any wide to normal lens will do it. So long as it's not too heavy to hold with one hand. ;)

Well... you could get something like a 17-40 and put it on a FF for the wide end and put it on a crop for the telephoto end! =P

MOst point and shoots start at about 35mm equivalent. That's only about 24mm in t1i lenses. So really any of the 17/18-xx zooms would do fine. Although focusing might be rough.
