Evening in the Garden of Good and Evil

Had a chance to visit Savannah this week. The title of this thread is in reference to the book and movie about Savannah. I didn't have a chance to take any pictures at midnight. Here are some pics from the evening.

This is a cemetery, in case you couldn't tell. Inside this vault is a famous general and his family. I can't remember what the sign said. I think he was british and defended Savannah against the french and the spanish. That's a long time back for US history.

From my days as a navigating officer in the British Merchant Navy I always remembered Savannah as the best ( and most friendly ) place I had ever visited in the US.... along with Lake Charles.
To be fair I had been up and down the Eastern Seaboard only.

OK on to the shots.
I'll start with the one I like most. Look out for drunk pirates.
Drain pipe and all this is a great shot and yes it reminds me of River Street when I was there 25 years ago. I like the open shutters inviting you in to something you can't quite see. I'll leave the interpretation to others.
Both the colours and saturation are excellent, and it needs that slightly run down look to feel authentic.

No 1 the cemetry shot I'm not sure about. I love the old tree ( so Savannah ) but the red brick vaults are just too much of a contrast. They remind me of WW II atrocities. Don't want to mention the word.

No 3 is just a bit plain for me. Sorry.

Thanks for the in depth critique. Glad u liked my "drunk pirates" photo. That one took a few tries. I wasn't carrying my tripod and I had to hand hold that shot. Lucky there was a support column for me to lean my camera against. I took three of the same shot and this one was the only one to come out sharp.

I had similar thoughts about the cemetery photo, but I think it adds to the creepy/spooky feeling in Savannah. Plus, it's my only photo with spanish moss that looks nice. I had to show it off.

I figured that the stair pic wouldn't be much of a crowd pleaser. I agree, it's kind of bland, but I took this photo to show the climate. Anything in the shade gets covered in green slime.

Dave, as always, you have done some outstanding work here. I love these shots.

I went to savannah for thanksgiving and loved that city, i have always loved history and wanted to go to see the restoration work. Great pic i will have to post some of mine.

It was a long time ago that I last was in Savannah. I don't remember it looking this good, though. Very nice pictures. Keep up the good work!

Great shots. I really liked the second one. It makes me want to step around the corner a bit and look inside but at the same time I almost feel like I shouldn't be looking in the window. Great pieces.

The second one is very nice. The texture and colors add to the feeling of antique and warm.

Beautiful shots Dave I like them all, but I do have to agree with Cameron, the second one "watch out for drunkin pirates" is just wonderful, there is something inviting yet very forboding about the open shutters and the window, You want to look in but are almost afraid of what you'll see.

Thanks for the comments. Haven't had time to shoot much lately so it's nice to see an old thread of mine raised from the dead.

I know some 5th Generation Georgia families. They are very proud of where they come from. These families has been living in the same houses for generations. I like that about them.

The second one is very well done. I like it alot.
