Whats going on guys? I am new to the site and wanted to start posting. I hae been using nikon for 6 years and I am finally making the jump over to canon. I just sold my nikon stuff and I am going to be buying a 7D and with a 24-70mm f2.8 as my first lens since its has so many uses and looks great. Any thing i should know before I make the jump to Canon?

The good news for you is that life is less expensive on the Canon side of the fence.

The bad news for you is L-fever. Once you catch it you'll never recover. :)

Suedezu is right. L lenses will harm your wallet eventually. But, the 24-70 is worth it without a doubt! (It's the only L I can speak of at this moment in time :P)

I had a feeling i was going to be all about the L lenses. the glass just seems to make the pictures so much clearer and colorful. I am eagerly awaitng to get the new stuff but this guy is stalling on me about buying my old stuff ERRR

Not sure what type of photos you shoot primarily but the 7D and 24-70 is a great combo. Perfect for general purpose use and I think you'll be very happy.

Also if you looking for something on the wide end the Canon EF-S 17-55MM f/2.8 is amazing too. Pricy and not L but the quality of images that come out of it are sharp!

I might look at the 17-55 IS instead. 24mm is not wide enough for many people (like me) when you factor in the 1.6x crop factor.

I think the 17-55IS is a better option for thr 7d as you get a better wide length. IQ rivals the 24-70 as does the price and everything else except for maybe build quality. But if you ever plan on moving to FF then perhaps stick with the 24-70.

That's because a white and blue forum reflects the light better than a black and yellow forum.

Congrats on the decision to move. I too would personally recommend the 17-55 over the 24-70L. Don't be blinded by the red ring. The 17-55 is killer. Aside from build quality, it is definitely a better optical performer than the Nikon 17-55, and also cheaper. And it has a stabilizer to boot!
