Ouch. That's an expensive rental after all is said and done, plus loss of credibility.

Don't know their rules but, I don't understand...I don't see the difference in that and/or zoo shots.

I seem to recall from past articles that you could use animals in captivity, but that you had to disclose that information upon submission, and that the photographer is claiming that the wolf is wild. (I believe he said it was his friends field?).

Someone else might know more about the competition, that is just what I remember. Though I would be surprised if they were disqualifying/banning him for not disclosing that it was a captive animal.

Agreed. The UPI reporter who wrote the piece should have given us a bit more context about the rules of the competition.

Maybe it's just me, but I fail to see any reason for outrage here.

Knowing the contest rules would be nice, though.

I seen this shot in a UK photography magazine, if i recall, the caption from the photographer was:

Set up on a IR movement trigger of some sort, i think it said it was shot at ISO 100 , F8, 1/60th Shutter speed, or something very low light that, i did wonder how he got the shot with the settings he advertised.

Also, i think it said some something like: I followed the wolves for a long time looking for the feeding tracks, and set up the shot...

Im sure i got the mag here at work with me ill dig it out!

Good memory, I Was close it was 1/30th of a second!!

'Hasselblad 503CW with a 6x6 Fujichrome backing + Planar 80mm lens; 1/30 sec at f11; ISO 50; purpose-made Ficap infrared camera trap'

'Watching the animals as they returned to the same spot to collect food each night, Mr Rodriguez decided on his dream shot.
He eventually captured it using a photographic trap that included a motion sensor and an infrared barrier to operate the camera'

Oh...Hello :)

It looks like a flash fired to me.

I have been at the exhibition and I do feel cheated in that there were so many worthy entrants that lost their chance of an overall win because of someone that broke the rules. Some of the entries were simply stunning http://www.nhm.ac.uk …ions/wpy/onlineGallery.do (external link)

A statement from the Natural History museum that actually ran the competition - http://www.nhm.ac.uk …bitions/wpy/statement.jsp (external link)

Rules are here (2010 so might have been updated to take account of the above story) http://www.nhm.ac.uk …tions/wpy-entry/Rules.jsp (external link)
