Thinking about getting one of these and so far the only complaints I can find online are:

-Battery life is not so good
-CA
-Barrel distortion

How bad are these issues?

barrel distortion is only bad if you're shooting RAWs and using a converter with the temporary fix. LR is now working fine with RAWs and DPP has worked out of the box. Battery life seems good enough for me. I've used mine little over the last month, but three of those days were skiing on the weekend. The last trip was 0ºF and it still took ~20 shots before it crapped out and it hadn't been charged in 3~4 weeks? Not half bad IMHO. But I couldn't give you a solid number on the # of shots to expect because my P&S is my weekend/skiing camera...

It's rated at about the same as my SD1000 and I've taken a weekend's worth of pictures (300+) on a single charge with that thing. Use the flash sparingly and set IS to "Shoot Only" and you'll be fine.

Barrel distortion is corrected in camera for jpegs

As said earlier DPP will correct raw as does LR.

(One can always buy PTlens if you want specialist software).

Battery life seems to be around 300. It takes a while for the new battery to charge fully.

I bought a spare third party battery for $29.

Haven't seen many complaints about CA.

S90 evidently has the best all round performance for a camera of its size.

The only major negative is the loose wheel on the back (which can change your settings if you re not careful) and you can get round this one buy using a double C grip with your hands or buying an available add on third party grip.

I always buy an extra battery no matter the battery life. 1.) I save myself constant vigilance. 2.) The extra is ready when it is needed, and 3.) The batteries go through entire cycles keeping them in shape for lotsa photo taking.

I picked up two of these generic batteries on Ebay for about seven US dollars plus about five dollars shipping. I put one in the charger and it seemed to charge up fine. Then I put it in the camera to take this picture. No idea about battery life yet of course. It does say 1000 milliamp hours, just like the OEM battery does.
