Because they're completely different systems.

Errr.......

So the light output of the Quadras and the DLite4 is different, even though they are both rated by Elinchrom as being 400 w/s units ??

Thanks Mic, that I didn't know !!

Hmmmm.........

I think what he means is. Head & Pack vs Monoblock.

With such professional attention to detail of their spelling and grammar the product better be good!

Any good ?

I see they have a 9-15 stop one too.

Bands a bit badly when set at 'max' (I think, but maybe I expect too much?), but I was running ISO3200, f2.8, 1/320

One mark down - ISO3200, f2.8, 1/1000:

OK....I'll fess up !! I've got no barking idea what you guys mean !!

I've downloaded the specification sheets for both units, and the D-Lite 4 (20482) is rated at 400 Ws / Joule with an F-Stop of 64.3.

The Ranger Quadra asymetric is rated as J(ws) 400, F-Stop 64.5

Surely we're not argueing or choosing lights based on 0.2 of an F-Stop ??

Or, as is more likely, am I missing something bleeding obvious -? ?

Austen.

Understand that the Quadras have a much shorter flash duration, necessary for freezing (or at least getting sharper) photographs of movement, but for shooting models in the sun, as you and Rai consistently (and awesomely may I mention) is this at all necessary ?

As Ed said, it's monoblocks v head and pack, and also it's weight v power, it's quality levels. Many variables.

Well, it's Lightroomed :-)

Seriously though, it's like it was. It jumped out and hit you. I just LRd it back to real-life (whatever that is).

Allo people - some nice tax from you all over the past few days!

I'm shooting a family wedding in Ballina in March and am gonna drive up from Sydney a few days early so I can stop off for some pretty photos and stay in some nice places before getting to Ballina on the Saturday.. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations to stop at?
Cheers!

Ed - yep ta... all ordered ; )

Austen - you already have strobes for studio use... get the single head Quadra for location use. They are so light weight that its not much hassle bringing them along everywhere. You can do alot with one light... check out Zack Arias Onelight DVD if you haven't already. When in the studio if you need more than one light then hook up your existing strobes with Elinchrom Skyport Universal receivers and use them with your Quadra. Same thing for location - use your speedlights (again hooked up to Elinchrom Skyport universals) if you really need more than one light.
