shouldn't that be c=(E/m)^-2

You are quite correct Dave (/self hurriedly pulls up trousers).

As *I* understand it, the IGBT circuitry (effectively) works exactly the same as a Speedlight, that is, it doesn't "quench", as in absorb, the "excess" power, rather like a dirty-great-big knife-switch it just cuts the power to the flash-tube, leaving the excess power in the capacitors.

That's why your Speedlight batteries last far longer on lower power, the capacitors are not fully discharged, hence less battery power is required to "top them up".

So the efficiency is not affected in that no excess electricity is being "dumped".

Is the way I understand it !!

Austen.

FWIW (I)nsulated (G)ate (B)ipolar (T)ransistors would perform precisely as described. Once again, I'm thinking of push-rod technology, when the world has moved on.

My mistake.

Interesting, I make the self portrait gag, and of the three you chose the masterbating monkey... hmmmm:o;). I thought you might have picked the white lion, or considering its hair colour and its popularity, the red panda?

@Juice,don't forget to check your MF/AF switch before you start shooting for the Tigers.;)

Am home (errr, "back in the MCP office"...) and have downloaded and am happy. Underexposed, though, not so happy with that (most of a stop too, so it's not little). I really have to trust my lightmeter, not the stupid screen on the stupid camera as seen by the stupid snapper.

However, they will be more than fine, I am sure.

For stuff like this, single shot with the focus beep on is a GOOD GOOD thing. You don't really notice it, but it's there, letting you know.

Would have liked the speedlights to beep when they were right to go - time for some real lights, I think. I should look into that idea...

Had a good talk to the bloke I was shooting for - who was there, giving direction, and that was excellent - and he reckons he's got a fair bit of work that he can push my way. We got on really well, being fellow Tiger tragics, so that could be a good thing as well.

Of course, we had that talk when we were waiting for the talent to arrive, so I was even MORE nervous doing the shoot :-)

Ps. Nice taxes all! Mic that (I think it was mic) that yellow wall shot was good. Muchos vibrant! Oh, and Rai. Great work as usual (Although that first one was a re-post from memory).

Cheers mate, that was the wall in Onehunga, a suburb of Auckland.

Glad you had a good break! Now, I'm sure you're ready to get back into it...

S7000 wrote in post #9677558 (external link)
Still talking about these lights ay?:lol

It's all about the light :-)

Having said that, I just shot a magazine cover, a double-truck and a single page (and assorted other shots) with a couple of speedlights and umbrellas. (Softboxes would have been better, IMHO, but you use what ya got.)

Little guy lived outside our room.

Wikked :-)

Of the options being considered, D-Lite4's / Quadras / Einsteins / ( Rangers + Damos Profoto probably being a bit over-budget ;) where's the Bowens fan-bois ? ) none of them get a "Shocking choice" rating, likewise (Rai and the Quadras excepted, but I suspect he'd also "allow" the D-Lite4's ;) ) none of them get a "This is the only choice to get" rating !!!

B.T.W...........Mic ( & Al ? ) back from Kayell yet ??

Yup. Can't speak for Al, but for myself, the Quadras aren't something I'm that interested in any more. If I was buying Elinchrom, I'd get the Ranger.

Quadra's a bit lightweight when compared to the big boys huh? they still do an amazing job, don't totally take them off your list.

Silly me. I had my uni orientation today and my girlfriend texted me telling me she found a Crumpler bag she wanted for uni. Merely half an hour later, I conveniently walked past a previously unknown-to-me Crumpler shop on Glenferrie Rd! So I go in there to buy the one she wanted and above that one was a bag that I instantly knew I wanted  I'm not sure on the name, I just looked inside it and knew it was great. Meant for 13" laptops but my 14" 16:9 laptop should fit in there easy.

:D Happy days.

Wouldn't say I'm ready to get back into it, however, tomorrow the 15 ads are getting dropped in, and the remainder of the logos (all should be high res copies) will be dropped in too. If I get it done by lunch (not likely, but I'm hoping) the bosses will be shouting me Chinese and booze down the road. Wooooooooooooooo! They'll actually be shouting my awyways, but it'd be nice to get it done by lunch so I can get blind. .

I hear what you're saying, but at around $3,000 for a two-light setup, I'd really have trouble justifying that to SWMBO !!

I could sneak the Einstein in under "petty-cash", and for the D-Lite4's / Quadras the CapEx request would likely be "rubber-stamped"...But the Rangers  .........
