That's more reasonable compared to the orignal RRP that was splashed about last month!

Still a pretty large premium over the current model.

cheers, juice (Canon shooter, Elinchrom lighter, but pretty much agnostic on brands.)

Considering I got mine new for $2100, that's a $1k jump. Very steep indeed.

Are you comparing prices to the Mk I at the end of it's run or at it's own release?

I got mine new for 1950 (B&H) when our dollar was 1:1 with the USD. so prices haven't changed a great deal me thinks. Once the Mk2s are in the market the price will surely drop on the second hand MK1s but i don't think it will be a huge drop.
Edit: when was it released? must be a while back!

To me that seems irrelevant. At first release the MkI was a flagship product that filled a niche. A high inital price is to be expected. The MkII is a replacement for an existing product. I don't see any reason to make it 50% more expensive than the previous model unless it comes with some major technological improvements.

Well for one it's sales aren't being bolstered by rebates from Canon to dealers. That will play a big part in the price of the old product and the new.
The rebates on the MkI have been in place for at least the last 2 years.

I wouldn't say it was the end of it's run, it was over a year ago. Just got a good deal. I'm sure there was a drop in price from first RRP to where it ended, but in all honestly, how long ago was the MKI released? I'd have no idea what that starting price was so I can't reference off it.

Thanks Dave.

Either way, the price needs to be relevant as now you don't even have an option if you want IS. It's either spend an extra 1k or go second hand (Which isn't always an option for some people).

Dave de Gollum...

In other news I have a mini, very mini appearence in the March issue of Two Wheels. In their "On Any Sunday" spread, look for the crazy guy speeding thru a causeway on the last page of the spread.

Back on the profiler/calibrator thing...

Bought one online from the UK, of all places. Did some research on the business and the seem to be OK. Way cheaper than buying it there.

Downside (of a kind): found a place in the UK selling the X-Rite ColorChecker Passport (Macbeth chart) for about $50 less than the "special offer" the Au distributor offered. Been wanting one for a while so that's good, I guess...

cheers, juice (Canon shooter, Elinchrom lighter, but pretty much agnostic on brands.)

An interesting post from Chase Jarvis.

Well, interesting for me, because I was thinking pretty much the same thing after the mag shoot the other day - I didn't do anything remotely special (well, I had the AF on from the start, which is better than last time...) but the client was happy, the talent was happy, I was happy.

But - nothing approaching special.

There's the fancy part of photoshoots that, frankly, gets too much press. Because real photoshoots and films are made in the trenches. Might be an epic and cinematic image looking through the camera, but more often than not you're standing next to a freeway composing the shot with snot running outta your face, the models is standing on platform painted to look like the background because they're too short for the set, and the PA is running the wind machine which is really a lawn-mower that uses a fan blade instead of a grass cutter. Not pretty. Very real, but far from glamorous.

Sometimes I call this the outside-looking-in-view the Black Box of Photography. That's the pretty name. More often, though, I call it 'making sausage'. As in, it tastes good when it's done, but you certainly would lose your appetite for the stuff if you watched it being made.
