There's a chance I'll be doing some portraits at Austinmer Beach this afternoon (the "after" shots for my friend's spray tanning business) and I'm thinking I'll probably need to kill a bit of harsh afternoon sun to get decent exposures... How many stops reduction would I need to bring bright daylight down to about ISO 100, 1/250th, f/8 or larger...? Alternatively, Damo do you want to do the shoot for me? :P Sent you an email Daniel, if you cant/dont get it pm me for my mobile Is that what you said at the Mardi Gras, and now you are well hung over? Tell 'em I said if you were in Sydney Suresh from Kayell would have looked after you ; - ) If you need a contact at Kayell, Melbourne a good mate of mine works there. mickeyjuice wrote in post #9675759 Ta. This is frustrating, but, oh well. Associated question (funny how these happen): Do I worry about printer profiling, or do I just use my Epson A4 printer for home stuff, and get the pro stuff printed out? I'm leaning towards the latter, I must say. I like the latter. For local clients I submit my print orders online to Bond Imaging and they are ready to pick up the next day. Smugmug takes care of online orders - they arrive in customers hands in 5-7 working days and I don't have to lift a finger. BOSS wrote in post #9675900 @Juice,why not get a pro printer and do it all yourself that way you have complete control over the entire process. And if it stuffs up theres only one person to blame! I'm like juice and couldn't justify the price. mickeyjuice wrote in post #9675927 Because that's not cheap, that way, and I don't really have room for a pro printer. I can vouch for that. DAdeGroot wrote in post #9676077 I don't print anything at home. +1 coalcliff wrote in post #9678195 Juice and any other Melbournians interested in bigger lights, see if you can get along and hear Guido from Profoto USA talk about light modifiers.. Seeing its in Collingwood. I am going to the Sydney talk on Monday. "MELBOURNE Wednesday March 3rd Where: Studio D.1, 130-132 Rupert Street, Collingwood VIC 3066 Time: 6.00pm - 8.30pm I'd love to get along but will be working. justAL wrote in post #9678293 I'm not going Elinchrom anytime soon at this stage. I really wasn't convinced by the Q's as at 1 pack per head (in order to acheive useable power) I can't justify the cost at this stage in my career. The RX's are the way to go for me when I decide that the I've reached the AB's limits. That and I couldn't stand the elitest attitude of the sales guy we spoke to. On another note, I've got to figure out how to fold up this diffuser panel now. ![]() If I could afford them I'd go for the Rangers. One thing that makes things more affordable is if you're at the stage where you are declaring your photography income for tax and claiming your expenses/depreciation. Photography gets a special dispensation compared to most industries as it is considered art. justAL wrote in post #9678363 OH JESUS!!! I've just killed MAGGIE!!! THE REFLECTOR POPPED BACK INTO SHAPE AS I WAS TRYING TO COLLAPSE IT AND KNOCKED HER HEAD OFF!!!! :P Look on the bright side, if she's got life insurance think how much gear you could buy! Better? Drop shadow and white much more betterer. mickeyjuice wrote in post #9681795 Most instructive quote from yesterday: "I was shooting with this guy a couple of weeks ago - really high end gear - and he was a really good photographer, but I don't think I'll use him again, as he kept shooting what he wanted to shoot, not what *I* wanted him to shoot." Spot on. A bit under what I was expecting. I'd expect 6-12 months down the track $2800 would be around the mark which isn't bad considering the current price of the Mk1. I thought I did well to get mine brand new for $2060 in March 08. mickeyjuice wrote in post #9689361 An interesting post from Chase Jarvis. Well, interesting for me, because I was thinking pretty much the same thing after the mag shoot the other day - I didn't do anything remotely special (well, I had the AF on from the start, which is better than last time...) but the client was happy, the talent was happy, I was happy. But - nothing approaching special. http://blog.chasejarvis.com …g-sausage-and-making.html I like the attitude of CJ - he's not afraid to call it as he sees it. justAL wrote in post #9689679 Very true. The water is murky, there's a group of perverts walking by every 15 minutes, the talcumn powder bottle/smoke machine is running out of juice. ![]() Tax from last night. ![]() Impressive shot Al. The Moose wrote in post #9692695 I'll be right I've got another Crumpler (bought it on Thursday) but it doesn't fit as much as it looked like it would when I found it in the shop (that's only books too, I couldn't find any room for the 1D2 alone) so I will probably return it... Damn impulse buys. The ThinkTank UD50 is still very tempting But I'm not buying it without a good look. Might try Ted's or Michaels on Elizabeth St on Monday like Richard recommended because the price isn't so bad for what it would do for me, really.Which Crumpler did you get? Black Shadow Photography
