Andrew,

the storm was a bit like an old Harley, all noise and flash and not much delivery!

I wonder where Daniel Kerr is? Is the shoot still on?

Three days of catching up on reading here so time for some MMQA (massive multi-quote action)

Indeed.

If you need a contact at Kayell, Melbourne a good mate of mine works there.

I hope it was the bloke in the corner who almost had a fit when I said "Alien Bees" rather than the knob we talked to!

I like the latter. For local clients I submit my print orders online to Bond Imaging and they are ready to pick up the next day. Smugmug takes care of online orders - they arrive in customers hands in 5-7 working days and I don't have to lift a finger.

Yeah, agreed.

If I could afford them I'd go for the Rangers. One thing that makes things more affordable is if you're at the stage where you are declaring your photography income for tax and claiming your expenses/depreciation. Photography gets a special dispensation compared to most industries as it is considered art.

What's the deal there, bloke-who-is-currently-at-Etihad-Stadium??

cheers, juice (Canon shooter, Elinchrom lighter, but pretty much agnostic on brands.)

I cancelled it... we were hoping for a sunny beach day for the 'after' shots so I'm going to reschedule for another time.

Sorry for not getting back to you Damo, I decided to have a nap instead and only got woken up by the phone about half an hour ago!

She's done. Here's the gallery. (external link) Are you pricks expecting more? :P
Mo Nature was a **** today. I pulled up at Gunnamatta today and scouted however by the time the other photographer arrived when we were all down at the beach the clouds moved in and made for a very miserable day.

Daddy needs big lights....I think I'll order a 1600 for April.

Bloke got the hell out of Etihad Stadium ASAP - it was a woeful display.

Who did you speak to at Kayell?

The deal is you put your income from photography in on your tax return and claim all sorts of stuff as deductions.

I think this is the relevant tax ruling (external link)

Alien Bee's! I'm not holding out for the Einsteins if they aren't here by then.

Richard: We talked to an older gentleman. Didn't get names though...the younger asian guy was great to talk to though.

A supercilious grey-haired dude.

Indeed, so it's pretty much the same as claiming any other business deductions?

Some nice Soundwave shots, BTW.

Thanks.

I wonder if the supercilious grey-haired dude is the same guy who made a comment to someone about "some of our staff like to think their photographers". That offended my mate no end, he's someone who grew up with a camera in his hand - learned the craft from his old man who was a well respected photographer in Melbourne.

My understanding is that for most businesses you need to have a certain turnover before claiming business expenses; but arts businesses you don't need to.

My GF works for a place that does taxes among a lot of other financial things so I use one of their tax people (I also get a decent staff partner discount).
