I've had three Toshiba laptops in a row and I've been happy with all of them. Two have been Satellite's (their consumer brand) and one has been a Satellite Pro (the higher range but not right up there, I don't think). At the moment, there's a few Satellite's going around cheap. Dick Smith usually have the cheaper ones, it's where I got mine. 4GB Ram, Dual Core 2.1GHz, 500GB HDD, 7 Home Premium, 14.1" 16:9 1366x768 display. Sounds great, right? Shared graphics is the only hiccup but for $850, I'm not complaining
And I guess some may prefer a tougher build, but that's obviously another line and price range and to be honest, the build has been just fine for me and that includes taking it to uni on the train in either a very well padded Lowepro Fastpack 250 or a shoulder bag made out of some material that's tough, but definitely not meant to be well padded!
