(and not Aperture or Final Cut Pro). I tried Aperture and was very quickly back to LR. Whilst not wanting to start a flame war with Mr Juice A few years ago I sold a 3-year old 12" Powerbook (new price $2499) for $1400 on eBay - which I had leased and claimed the entire 3 years of lease costs off my taxable income 100% - which meant after selling it for $1400 I actually made money, whilst never enduring a blue screen of death, virus attack or any other unpleasantness whatsoever. Do that with your $799 Dell laptop... assuming it even makes it to 3 years. Yes, looks like you don't want to indeed. Last Blue screen of death here? Don't recall. Last virus? Don't recall. Doesn't stop Apple fanbois bringing them up all the time, though. S7000 wrote in post #10128990 Dan, your mail box is apparently over quota! I don't have enough space to host the shots either...Want me to post them to you? Put them up at rapidshare, or somewhere. Easier at both ends. photobitz wrote in post #10129039 Dell laptops have no issue getting to 3 years without any failures. It's the week after the warranty expires you have to worry about. ![]() I was very surprised when they replaced the HDD in Dad's laptop a month after the three year warranty expired. No requirement to, obviously. cheers, juice (Canon shooter, Elinchrom lighter, but pretty much agnostic on brands.)

Even when I do (laptop which I frequently travel with) I use the free Microsoft Security Essentials. 4MB download, very low on system resources. Clarence

I've used Aperture for a couple of years and heard glowing reports from LR users so I downloaded the beta version to try out and I couldn't get into it... the interface seemed clunky and a bit too messy or something for me. I dunno, I'm not a heavy CS user so maybe I'm not schooled enough in the Adobe way of doing things. Could also be my lack of screen real estate that made it feel so cramped - I usually open images full-screen in aperture and just use the adjustment panel which hardly takes up any room at all... LR seemed to take up a lot of "room" for the same purposes... Daniel Kell

In LR, you can hide the four panels so that your image is larger, then all you do is scroll over the top of where the panel is and it shows up temporarily. I do that regularly on my laptop, but I don't at all on my 24" full HD LCD. LR's a brilliant program.

Looks good to me, as long as it's not too difficult to get to. cheers, juice (Canon shooter, Elinchrom lighter, but pretty much agnostic on brands.)
