My parents live about an hour south of Mackay (near Cape Palmerston). There are signs up on the cape about crocs, but last time I ventured down there, none were to be seen. Next visit I'm going to try to find one. Dave

Oh sure, I don't mean ND/Grad ND/CPL, etc. cheers, juice (Canon shooter, Elinchrom lighter, but pretty much agnostic on brands.)

Works well if most of your lenses use the same size filter, at least I just need one.. 50d, Tokina 16-50/2.8, EF 24/1.4 L, Σ 50/1.4, EF 100/2.8 Macro, EF 70-200/4 L IS, 430EX II

I have some cute photos of my son with the 16-35 up real close and in a few he is touching the front element (well filter) and glad it wasn't really the front element. (grotty little fingers Seaspray is another situation that comes to mind..The front element is much stronger, more everything-proof than you think, and certainly moreso than any filter you could put on there. I wouldn't worry in the slightest about grubby kiddy-prints.

Just use the lens hood instead. Filters are a bit of a waste as they do often affect constrast and can induce lens flare. The front element of a lens is quite a resilient piece of glass so be sure to blow it out before cleaning with a soft cloth. +1 AdamC wrote in post #10136954 The front element is much stronger, more everything-proof than you think, and certainly moreso than any filter you could put on there. I wouldn't worry in the slightest about grubby kiddy-prints. The only situation I'd worry about is say, flying sand on a windy day at the beach or something, and if it was bad enough to need a filter, I'd probably not take my camera there at all. +1 cheers, juice (Canon shooter, Elinchrom lighter, but pretty much agnostic on brands.)
