@BOSS - thanks for the story and for the information John. And of course best of luck for your recovery. We've got a family friend that was diagnosed with throat cancer and told he only has months to live. That was around 15 years ago and he's still around fighting it hard. I know he's a big proponent of using alternative treatments.

Thanks, guess I should fill in the rest of the story:

2001 initial diagnosis put on hormone treatment and in a letter from the specialist to my GP I was given two years to live. I said don't think so I've got retirement and a lot of living to do.

2003 retired age 55

2008 pain in upper back that required hospital and the heavy duty painkillers found to be tumor compressing spinal cord at the T4-5 veterbrae rushed to Royal Brisbane Hospital for emergency radiation therapy to shrink tumor. Was paraplegic for a month until the radiation treatment started to shrink the tumor.Taken off hormone treatment as it had become refractory.
This time was given only months to live. My reply don't think so.
Back to Gympie Hospital for rehab and was told might not walk again. My reply watch me.

2009 xmas, tumor on L1 veterbrae shrunk with radiation therapy.

2010 still here and fighting hard, now with chemo.

During all of this I tried the alternative remedies but found they didn't do much for me.
All the time I have maintained as positive an outlook as you can and that with good Doctors I believe has got me this far and will see me through to 2030 at the least.

I'm walking but it may never be 100% what it used to be,got the walking stick.

Oh Crud!

I just found out today a family friend has been diagnosed with with Bladder cancer on Thursday and is going under the knife on Tuesday. Then I come here and read about BOSS.

Mate, hang in there, it seems you have the right positive attitude that will help you a lot. Enjoy every day no matter how crappy that they may be.

While we're talking cancer (fun topic !), excuse me while I chew some bandwidth. I posted this in OCAU, but will post it here too.

We went to the MCG last night for the Field of Women event and here's a few snaps. Unfortunately, our seating position meant we had goal-posts, in the way, but I have tried to do my best to work around them.

For those who haven't heard about it, the idea is to get 14,100 people to form the shape of a lady on the ground at the G. 14,100 is the number of Australians who will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer this year. Most of them are in pink signifying women, but there were 100 or so in blue. These signify the males who will be diagnosed.

When you see what 14,100 people looks like, it kind of blows your mind to think that many people will hear those awful words this year. My wife was one of the 14,100 2 years ago this month.

Anyway, enough of me...here's the pics.

#1 The crowd waits for the signal to enter the field

#2 14,100 people begin to stream onto the ground

#3 And still they stream

#4 The finished product

#5 The MCG scoreboard shows footage taken from the chopper above.
IMAGE: http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/7693/20100507uk4n9040.jpg

#6 The main lights were turned off and 14,100 flashing bike lights made quite a show.
IMAGE: http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/9640/20100507uk4n9123.jpg

#7 Just to remind the viewer. That number 14,100 is 14,100 actual real people.
IMAGE: http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/3847/20100507uk4n9075.jpg

#8 Just as the last few people left the field, the rain came down. It held off just long enough ! Someone up there was watching.

@BOSS & Wardie.

Sounds like you're giving it a run for it's money John ! Keep it up. Best of luck to your mate Wardie and John's right, a positive attitude does heaps.

Seeing some of the women in my wife's dragon-boat team is living proof that positive attitude can do wonders.
