I've had something weird happening the last few days on my iPhone, and I'm not sure what it is exactly. I send a text and then it's received with part of the text substituted for part of a previous text sent who knows how long ago. It's definitely part of texts I've sent previously, but I don't know what's causing the problem or if it's even on my end, their end or it's just Optus sh*tting itself?

Dunno, I about 2 months ago I kept receiving the same messages over and over. I think it was a problem with Optus. I got the same message about 40 times.

I get the same texts sometimes, generally what happens is someone will send me a text, I'll reply, then I'll receive the original text again and about 30 seconds later, I'll get their reply. They never sent the original one again, I just receive it a second time for some reason.

A couple of months ago I was sending texts that weren't being received and it was more prevalent, I was considering getting a replacement phone and SIM and seeing how that went, but I've just left it and it got better but there's still these problems that I encounter everyday. My contract with Optus runs out in October so I'm thinking about moving to Telstra, but I don't want to fork out so much more money for the same value so I'm not sure what I'll do.

I'm waiting for the day I find a phone that will make me ditch the iPhone  Who knows when that'll be.

Telstra sucks balls. DO NOT change to them. They don't offer anythning, and they're expensive. I was on them for years because I just jumped onto my dads bill, I never liked them.

Get a Nokia 6700. Best phone ever!

 I just want the coverage. I'm sick of dropping out or having little coverage on the trains into the city.

Terrible phone! The older version of it, the 6500, was horrible. I couldn't stand using it. I doubt I'll be going back to a Nokia while they're using the same Symbian system. The N900 looked good but it's pricey and the first reviews of it were that it had some problems holding it back.

Is there an ellipsis inbetween the messages? Also, is the first message cut off at 160 characters? Are you running the current iPhone software?

Nope, it was as normal. The only reason I know it happens is because the receiver realised that the last sentence made no sense about what we were talking about  I'm not sure about the 160 characters, since I got my iPhone I haven't bothered to worry about that, mainly because it doesn't display it and also because I have free SMS/MMS to Optus, so I'm allowed to go nuts.

I'm running 3.1.3, as far as I know that's current?

3.1.3 is current so you're right there.

I'd probably back it up and restore it; if that gives no joy get a SIM replacement. It's not uncommon for SIM faults to cause these sorts of issues - mine went bad after a couple of years and I began only ever receiving texts when I sent one, like you mentioned above. Replacing the SIM fixed that. It should be free... though some places will try and charge you for it.

Congrats on the 17-55! I'm guessing you sorted the dust issue then?
