From the SMH

Go America!

This is a bit closer to home and of far more concern. Our dud of a government is engaged in confidential negotiations with ISPs in an effort to monitor every person's internet activity. Welcome to 1984 folks if this goes ahead.

It looks like some international treaty might be the reason behind it http://www.theaustralian.com.au …ry-e6frgakx-1225879621758 (external link)

I'm sick of the broad brush where instead of actually targetting people suspected of crimes the government/law enforcement agencies target everybody and try to find evidence to fit them up.

Is $2995 a decent price for a new 5D Mark II? Scorptec www.scorptec.com.au (external link) has a 24 hour sale ending today on the 5D MII for $2995 - promo code is CAN5D if you're interested.

Great selection of toys :)

Thanks Boss, I will! After 3.5 years of using the 400D, I'll sure appreciate it.

Indeed you will. I made that jump and there was an immediate and noticeable difference in the quality of the shots I was producing. So much clearer, sharper, cleaner. As a bonus, my hand was no longer squished from holding the tiny 400D body.

So, 5D2 shooters: anything critical I should know? Any important custom functions to set? I already have CFI 3-1 and CFIV 1-2.

I've got both of those set too. :)

Investigate and setup the My Menu screen. It's sooooo much handier than trawling through the menus for your commonly used items (eg mirror lockup, erase images, movie modes, flash modes, etc).

That second article is worth reading.

If this goes through I'll be losing all technology, and as many personal details as possible. I'll go back to 1990. No mobile, no internet, no e-tag, no credit cards, I can even go as far as no AU passport (British citizen - In fact, I could even become a South African citizen if I wanted, they'd never pull a stunt like this ).

Seriously, what a load of BS! This is basically a national ID card without the card right here.

From the SMH today:

It's not Ghana be easy

Come on, really?

@Phil,its getting scarier all this filters etc in the name of ????. As for the national ID card its in, its called 'medicare card'.
Yes you can lose all of the electronic ID grabbers..credit card etc but they have made it so that you can't get/do just about anything without it. Think about what you can do without using either some of or all of your back up ID stuff,to open a bank acct 100 points of ID etc.

Dan, the colours are a bit blown out to me, but nice DoF!
BTW, you broke the golden rule of POTN, your first bird shot has to be a duck!

In regards to the ISP data collection, how long before pirate ISP's would be set up and illegally operating.. and the guvment have cars with radars patrolling the streets searching for illegal interneters!! A throwback to the Television licence days in England!!

Phil, any chance of us having a 5 nil win over Ghana?

Yes, I never said losing ID would be easy. Do-able, yes. I reckon I could trim things down to 1 AU bank account, my taxfile number, my ABN, my licence and my Medicare card (forgot about that one). Oh, and one landline phone account.

Actually, one other question that would be a bit of a problem for the govt. How do they monitor netcafes? It's not like you'd have a personal IP number which you needed to actually log onto the net. (I bet they'd love that idea too! Actually, maybe I should give them ideas...They're probably reading this right now!!!

Damo, the TV licence in England is a classic!!! When I was dossing with cousins they never had one, so it was always the coathanger in the back of the TV. If you ever got a random knock on the door, you always had to throw the hanger under a bed and plug in the playstation. It was a very hefty fine if you got caught.

They used to do the TV license thing here to once back in the 50s from memory.

@Phil good point about the 'cafes. So long as the ideas you give them are red herrings,go for it.

Damn, forgot about the 3% ($29) the thieving bastards @ CommBank charge on international Visa card transactions. Oh well. Package is scanned through Honolulu.
