They used to do the TV license thing here to once back in the 50s from memory.

@Phil good point about the 'cafes. So long as the ideas you give them are red herrings,go for it.

Also those pre-paid internet thingys.

Damn, forgot about the 3% ($29) the thieving bastards @ CommBank charge on international Visa card transactions. Oh well. Package is scanned through Honolulu.

I hate bank fees! Luckily the other half works for Westpac so I haven't paid any fees (bar the account fee) for quite some time.

Is $2995 a decent price for a new 5D Mark II? Scorptec www.scorptec.com.au (external link) has a 24 hour sale ending today on the 5D MII for $2995 - promo code is CAN5D if you're interested.

Yep. I just bought one from DCW for $3035 and that was the cheapest I could find for AU stock. $40 isn't worth busting a gut over though. :)

As a bonus, my hand was no longer squished from holding the tiny 400D body.

I have small hands, and had a grip on the 400D so that wasn't really an issue for me. Having said that, the 5D just feels so much nicer even to pick it up and hold it.

I've got both of those set too. :)

Investigate and setup the My Menu screen. It's sooooo much handier than trawling through the menus for your commonly used items (eg mirror lockup, erase images, movie modes, flash modes, etc).

Cheers Dave :)

I've always wondered what it'd be like to live in the world of 1984. Can't wait to be one of many running away to an unknown location.

Private, secure VPN links to US-based proxies are not outside the fiscal reach of ordinary Australians ;)

Here you go Moose check this one out google farenheit 451 its a novel by Ray Bradbury of a future without books, books if found are burnt by fireman. There is also a secret group of book lovers who are memorising books so that they may never be lost. Try doing that with Tolstoys War and Peace.

Afternoon all,

Internet screening / monitoring has got to be one of the most stupid things they've thought about for a while now. If they block anything that is out of the ordinary or considered a "harm to the children" they're insane. The problem with most kids these days is the parents not accepting that their kid isn't perfect (I work closely with a school and my mum works at a school).

Anyway, i'll leave the rant to another day :o

Who else is waiting for end of financial year to fund some camera gear they haven't been able to justify?

Apparently Labour parties just don't get it. (external link) Sounds like the NSW Government at the moment.

I reckon it would be the novel was written in 1953 and the movie was ???? I'll find out.
Basically its about censorship people are controlled by huge TV screens and radio earphones 24/7. They also drive very fast cars.

'Farenheit 451' .....which is the temperature at which paper bursts into flame. The novel may be in your local library/ secondhand bookshops and the movie may be either vhs or dvd at your local hire shop.
