This gets my vote for stupid thread of the day: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=886704

Apparently the mods are unaware of people using iPads to control their cameras for, say, space shuttle launch photography, or to show off their portfolios, or to preview/upload their photos via the accessory card reader ...

 Hmmm

Regards,
Cameron

You should organise to get it heated Damo.

Nah, it would be too popular if the water was warm, besides I enjoy watching the other swimmers dive in and scream in pain, I have learnt not to scream, it only makes you short of breath for the rest of the race!;) Today's water temp was a refreshing 14.5 deg!

@Ed - what dish are you getting mate? If it's a Mola where'd you grab it from... I can't find them anywhere in stock?

For anyone that's interested... looks like Kayell is selling Redrock DSLR rigs - http://www.kayellaustralia.com.au/static/redrock/ (external link)

Did that guy from the lighting class get back to you or you to him about DSLR video training?

Well when the boss says no, the mods follow! The ipad is just a fashion accessory to make you look hip apparently!

From The Daily Telegraph (http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au …-e6freuy9-1225881765756): (external link)

The Sunday Telegraph road-tested the vuvuzela on the streets of Sydney last week to gauge the reaction of Australians and quickly found it was not a good way to win friends and influence people.

We were ejected from the steps of the Opera House, no fewer than five pubs, the Australian Stock Exchange, and failed to impress when we joined a group of buskers at Circular Quay.

People in Pitt Street Mall blocked their ears and scurried past as they came into earshot.

A bar worker at Circular Quay gave us a lengthy dressing down.

If they make their way to A-League matches (given that horns of any kind are banned from AFL matches and pretty much banned from NRL matches) there'll be an uproar before anyone can even score a goal.

Hi all...not much tax from me lately, the only thing I have been shhoting is kid's football and soccer.

I have a tripod/head question.

I've come by a bonus Manfrotto 055CLB tripod, which has a 501 head.

It was at the tip no less, leaning up against the office shed. When I asked the guy what he was going to do with it, he said I could have it. For nix. So I grabbed it and bolted before he changed his mind :D

I don't do a lot of tripod work, but this thing looks like it should have no trouble holding up the 1D and 70-200 f2.8 if it needs to.

It looks to be in pretty good condition, apart from a touch of mud and dust and some light surface rust on a couple of the screw heads. I guess it was there for a couple of weeks. Even has the allen keys and little spanner thingys in their clips !

The head is missing the quick-release plate though. Google seems to indicate the head is primarily a video head, so my question is, should i just get a plate and use it, or am I better off to invest in a different one ? Any recommendations as to the best place I might find either the plate or another head ?

12.7 outside here, and we're further north than you :P

Of course, that's air-temp, not water temp.

Is that the fluid head version ? If so, you have a massive bargain there. It will be a lot slower to adjust than a ball head, but very smooth (providing it's not broken).

QR plates shouldn't be too expensive.

Boring tracking info:

ASCOT VALE, VIC, AU 06/20/2010 10:58 A.M. IMPORT SCAN

So that's positive, seems like it's really down here now.

Have given PCB a bit of a working over at FM - won't do him any good, as he's too old and stubborn to heed good advice, but boy, have a I got a lot of supportive PMs! Quite interesting, really.

cheers, juice (Canon shooter, Elinchrom lighter, but pretty much agnostic on brands.)

I'm not 100% sure if it's the fluid version, but all the pictures I can find of them look exactly like the one I have, so it could well be.

It certainly has that kind of feel to it and as far as I've been able to find, it is all in working order. The plastic bizzo is missing off the handle, but hey, for the price, I'm happy :D

Anyone know for sure when iOS4 is going to be available here? Everything American lists it as June 21 but I doubt they'd release it when it's June 21 here. I'll probably update it straight away.

That's what I thought, but apparently 3.0 was available here before the US. I did jailbreak my phone but there was really no benefit. I only got a couple of apps but I can easily live without them (could live without an iPhone itself ).
