okay so I've been watching the superbowl news. Yesterday it was pouring in Miami. Today, blue sky & people are on the beach in bikinis. Sigh. I want to live somewhere like that.

Ahem... Look south about 1,000 miles.

Anyone ever use those plug type tire repair kits? We notice one of the tires on the truck was low and when I looked at the tire I found a nail in it. I changed it out for the spare and then discovered it had two nails in it.

There's plenty of tread on the tire but I don't want to take it to a shop because they'll try to sell me a new tire (or two) and we can't afford that kind of expense this month.

They aren't as easy to use as the old skool auto mechanics used to make it look. I had lots of problems trying to push the glue covered rubber plug into the hole in the tire without the rubber plug breaking. I don't remember what I patched or if it worked.

Any legit tire retailer should be able to plug it just fine and not try to sell you a new tire. A couple of phone calls should find you one.

Yes I keep one in the truck and have used it many, many times over the years. I used to make dump runs from work daily and that place is full of nails. They work great and are how most service stations fix it. Make sure you get a professional kit though. The cheap kits use substandard plugs and even worse is the tool to insert them is not strong enough. They are very easy to use except for one thing. Cramming that plug in can be very hard under the car, much easier off the car. This is also where the cheap kits fail, the inserter bends. I use a kit called Safety Seal which is heavy duty. I have used a come-along strap, a hammer, illegal immigrants, and brute force to jam that thing into my big radial truck tires. Except for a slice in the tire I never had a plug fail. A better fix is a patch. The patch is inserted from inside the tire and pushed out leaving a glued flange inside. Generally a patched tire is considered as good as new, where a plugged tire is considered repaired.

Yep! I have.

About 30 years ago... Are those kits still available?

That too. Unless it is in a sidewall most service stations will plug or patch it.

They are more available but mostly in crappy Chinese form. Look at a lot of convince stores in the auto "section" you will see them.

by the way...it's way more fun to do stuff like this...no death, no injury. And boy it really works your gluts & thighs & stomach. At least out of shape people like me...

LOL, works for me too...I haven't really tried the skiing, have you tried to hula hoop? I was cursing at it by the end, but boy did I feel it the next day.

Jasper got his panniers today, very well built and stupidly expensive.

Would love to see pics...never really saw them used.

Is it compatible with the balance board? I'm loving the bb.

I have big feet...I swear the bb doesn't like that. It always tells me that my center of gravity is WAY off.
