I had one of those windowsill perches on the bedroom window that all of my cats loved. But, when Kitteh broke the window, the maintenance guys had to remove the velcro strip that held it in place so they could replace the glass. I still haven't gotten around to re-installing that perch for the cats. They probably hate me for that...

WAll e took the window bed away from Marky, but when John put a new cover on it - Marky took it back. It is his place to lay down when John is in his office.

My Puck adored his window perch, Tspin won't go near it.

I found this pic in an old photobucket account I think he was about 6 here

I tried introducing Ashley to a crate once. It didn't work out very well. Her reaction to it ripped my heart apart, and I threw that brand new $50 crate in the dumpster....

I started our pups as puppies and at first had their bedding in there and kept the door open. They got use to it pretty quick and painlessly. Took maybe a few days for them to be comfortable in it overnight with the door open. Didn't close the door overnight until they were housebroken.

Have you read David Weber's Honor Harrington series? SF genre.

I read a number of that series years ago. I remember them as being pretty good.

JJ, John and I have both gotten into the Anna Piegon Series by Navada Barr. They fit into the mystery genre and are good.

Since Heather goes through books faster that I do, I took a break from the Nevada Barr series and am now about halfway through The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove by Christopher Moore. A tad strange, with some very eccentric characters, including a shape-shifting sea creature with a "thing" for explosive fuel tanker trucks. It's really pretty amusing and I think I'm going to get more of his books...

I have one of those in my office. I originally put it up for Marky, but Wall-e usurped it until I replaced the cloth part. Marky has now taken it back... He spends the entire day in there with me.

Ashley was a lot older than that when I tried to introduce her to a crate. She was about 9-years-old at the time*, and very much used to spending most of her life outdoors.

*I say 9-years-old, because when I adopted her seven years earlier, a vet told me she was probably about two years old at the time. I now believe very strongly that vet was way off in her estimate. I'd bet almost anything that Ashley was a whole lot closer to that nine year mark at the time the vet told me "two"... But, since nobody knew anything about Ashley's past, it's really anybody's guess.

I've never tried introducing an older dog to a crate but I'm guessing that the technique would be very different. As a pup they don't know better and it goes pretty fast. All my pups seemed to enjoy going into the cage right off and only panicked when the door closed. My 15 year old furkid now prefers his cage and at times puts himself in there. It's his home.

My sister in law's cat adores her travel box, they leave it in the living room under a chair and she goes in and sleeps in it.

Oddly enough, when I got that crate for Ashley three or so years ago, I also tried putting Crystal and Tupper into it to see how they would adapt. They were both 8-years-old at the time. Both of them freaked the freak out! They hated it! I mean, to the point of seriously panicking and injuring themselves as they scrambled toward the open door.

Now... Three years later... Scroll back a couple pages. That's Tupper in Minnie's crate. He won't leave it unless I drag him out of there! Close the door? Sure... He doesn't care!

Furkids...

We have ours next to the TV center in the corner of the room. He usually sleeps on the couch but sometimes just prefers being in there.

I keep the cat's travel carrier open in the bedroom, too. It's next to that doghouse. I have never seen one of the cats go into either one of them, willingly.
