For those using Picasa but who don't let it automatically check for updates they have now updated it to open CR2's from a 7D. Mine updated just as I was about to download a few test shots.

Yeah, the update has been available for a little while even though the auto update feature doesn't immediately find it. Ver. 3.6 it should be.

At least I won't have to suffer those pink smears any more!

Keep in mind that Picasa does a horrible job of rendering and editing RAW files, so just consider it a rough viewer. Don't want to start cropping or applying corrections from within picasa.

Picasa has supported the 7D since early November. It's a shame that the raw reader automatically adjusts the picture, and you can't control it. It opens the picture correctly (for about 2 seconds), then it dims it.

It has to do with the open source (dcraw) raw reader tool applying it's default settings, rather than picasa calling the reader and disabling the auto features.

I hope they are working on a fix.

Picasa is my "go to" program for at least 90% of what I do with my photos, and considering it's cost I'm not about to criticize how fast they add support for new cameras. I DO NOT use it for RAW conversions, but as already mentioned it's really nice to get rid of those pink things which represent the CR2's.
