Not sure how this happened, but I took a lens off earlier today, and the AF select screen fell out and hit the floor. I've taken great care of my camera to this date, and see no other reason as to why this could have happened besides the possibility of a faulty camera...

I'm not sure if this is covered by Canon in warranty, but this is kind of inconvenient. I tried putting it back in, and that seems to have made it worse... I'm not sure what to do? I'm thinking of sending it in for repair.

If I send it in, how much will it cost? How long will it take? And will the AF select screen be replaced?

Edit: Oh, and no, I haven't touched any part of the inside of the camera since I've had it. Too scared to. :\ Except for when I tried to put it back in, but I'm not sure if that counts.

What is an auto focus screen? Are you referring to the focusing screen? If so, just clip it back in.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

Yeah, I am. And I tried. It won't go back in. I'm having a lot of trouble getting it in there.

Just tried this. Once more, couldn't get it back in. I think I might have ****ed it up. :\

Can I just use it without the screen? sounds crazy, but it's worth a try. Also, can I just buy a new focusing screen? Or will I have to send it in? Once more, it's scratched (the one I have) so it's a little hard to see through it... of course i don't have a lens on though.

It's still snowing. I still wouldn't take my camera out into that.. I don't really have one anymore anyway. :\ Not without focusing screen. I can't get ANY focus without that screen.

Too bad that happened. I send it into Canon. The focus screen gets scratched just looking at... you can not touch it!!!

Yeah, I know.. :\ I got it back in, put a lens on, and looked through it and messed with my AF points. They're VERY dim now. I'm not sure if that's the screen, or something inside the camera that controls that. Oh, and when I tried to take a picture, it fell out again.. I don't know what to do. I'm gonna send it to Canon, but I don't know how long it'll take.

Call them. Don't shoot with as it may cause more damage.
The screen shouldn't fall out if installed correctly.
It takes a bit of getting use to at first... and they come with a special plastic tool to pick them up by the tab so you don't bugger them up.

If this is a predictable tread (as in you always buy faulty stuff) I would invest in those extended warranties =P

You know, I probably should, but I have no money, haha.
