These birds raided the berries on a tree near to home, so I grabbed a few images.

We seem to have had an invasion of these this year!

Nice captures, though they look a tad soft, have you tried a little sharpening.

Nice shots of a lovely bird, Paul. But those backgrounds are making my eyes hurt, seems like movement or something to me. Any clues?

Yes, there have certainly been a lot in this neck of the woods.

I've updated the images with some sharpening added. Have I overdone it now?

Yes, strange isn't it. I've never had any other images come out with backgrounds like that. These were shot hand held, but I would have expected the whole image to be affected if it was movement. I was shooting from indoors (warm) with the lens stricking out through the window to outside (v. cold). Is it possible that misting of the lens could cause this effect?

Very cute little birds and a nice series.

About the background, were you using any kind of filter at all on the lens?

I've had backgrounds come out like that also, with the 400 5.6. Not sure why.

It's a common problem when using cheap filters, which is why I asked. If no filter though, I don't know.

When I saw your title, I thought I was going to look at our Red-winged Blackbirds... but this was a very nice treat... pretty shots of a beautiful bird.
