I went to Ridgefield NWR today with another POTN member.

We didn't have great light, but we did get some decent looks at a few birds. These were all taken with the 100-400. Slight crop on the Eagle. No crop on the others.

American Bittern

You definitely saw more there than I did! I only had a 70-200, but had always wanted to visit.

Great shots, that heron one is quite interesting!

Don't forget, they have a photo contest every summer, you might want to submit some of your images and see if you can win a new camera ;)

It's hit and miss sometimes. You could have done really well with the 70-200 today. 400 was too much for some of the shots I got.

Thanks Lisa. You should have come along! Not a lot of birds, but what we saw we were really close to.

Very nice, T.D. Like the different angle on the heron.

Great shots! I'm jealous. Here East of the mountains all our wetlands are frozen. I think all the birds flew over to Ridgefield.:(

We are relatively new to POTN but are loving it. Great bunch of people.
It was a gorgeous day up there, at least in the afternoon. Ridgefield really gets under your skin, my husband have been there almost every weekend since November. I've posted a couple of our shots from Saturday called 'Great Blue Heron vs Bull Frog (graphic)'.
Seems like every weekend we go there is something new that just makes us long for a 'semi' dry day which isn't often here.

POTN is a great place! Not only the rain, but the clouds and fog push the ISO up and the shutter speeds down. That's a place that just cries out for a 500L... or longer. It would be great if the birds were all there during the summer.:D

I looked at the Ridgefield shots on your website. I've never seen the owl, but I'm always looking for it when I'm there. I'd love to get a nice photo of it.l
