Hey guys,

With my new 5D Mark II, I've shot some cool videos and now I want to throw them all together, and make some cool effects. Does anyone know some free reasonably good editing software / programs?

Cheers..

There's not too many Free editing programs that can handle the 5d2 files. With your PC, you could downsamlple to 720p, and edit in Windows Movie maker (Free with windows).

You could use the windows media encoder to downsample.. here's a link
http://www.microsoft.com …pros/encoder/default.mspx (external link)

Once you downsample.. import the new file into Movie Maker and start editing. You will lose quality with the downsample.

I would suggest skipping everything above and downloading a free trial from Sony.

There are a few options..

Sony Vegas Pro - Top of the line editing program- Unlimited Tracks-Blue Ray Burning.. ect.. $600

Sony Vegas Movie studio 9 Platinum
- More than you'll ever need. Same as Pro except for a few high end options. $80

Here's a link to download the free trials.. i think they are 30 days unlimited

I use Sony Vegas Pro 9 and it's in my view the best. Other rivals are Adobe Premiere Pro and Apple Final Cut Pro.

Each of the top 3 also have cut down versions (vegas movie studio / premiere elements / final cut express)

The cut-down version will do a good job, but get the pro versions if you are serious.

If you have a Mac Final Cut is the way to go it is rapidly becoming the standard for non linear recorded editing with Avid holding firm in the live arena.
