How can I go from the first pic, to the last pic? Af point was on the left eye of the wife in the first, left eye of the baby in the second.
I thought all was good with my recently repaired (again) Mark III. But as soon as I take the flash off the camera and go outside, it goes to crap in most situations. Lens is 35L. Lens is not faulty. Lens works perfect on 5DII. I can post more samples like the last pic if it's necessary. Would you trust this body?
One thing I do know is that the while I had the camera on my shoulder, I bumped it with my elbow. I heard the shutter open and saw the 'sensor cleaning' square but not the little sparkles or text.
I - have - had it.

Sorry, I know you've had tons of issues from this camera. Looks like it's dyslexic.

The shutter click and square with no text or glittery stuff sounds like you hit the SET button to activate live view (maybe the lens cap was on, or just pointed at something dark so the rest of the screen went black). Could this have changed your focus point somehow when you put it back into non-LV mode?

Just curious, do you have the camera set up to show your focus point when reviewing the image on the LCD? It might help to know if the camera is strangely swapping focus points on you (red box not where you put it) or it's just misfocusing (red box where it should be, but that area not in focus). Sorry I'm not more help, but that's all I can think of at the moment.

I think you'll need to do some more controlled testing to determine what's really going on. Josh_30 had a good suggestion above - maybe this was from an inadvertent change in settings.

I hear what you're saying about the live view button, perhaps you're right on that. With the AF point preview I don't have it set like that in camera, however in DPP I can see the AF point selected...

I just don't know what else to try. I know the Mark III (in general) works...

I know where the AF point is though and can show everyone in a screen shot, I probably should anyway. I somewhat agree about controlled testing but if I can't take a snapshot with a Mark III, what can I take a snapshot with.

The focus seemed to be bouncing all over the place - not good. :(

Okay, so an accidental change in focus point is out. I don't use DPP very often, so I had forgotten about that.

Does this misfocusing problem happen with any other lenses, or just the 35L?

Oh, so there is a known issue between these two items? I haven't had my Mark III for very long, so I wasn't aware of this.

It'll come. Just keep using your gear, and especially your flash indoors.

It was with all lenses, but I've only tried the 35L since it came back from Canon.

Honestly one of the holy trinity lenses doesn't play nicely with the Mark III?

Hah, I cannot express how disillusioned I am right now. I feel like I've never touched a camera before.
