Tore the flexible fresnel lens on the telephoto flash extender I mount on Canon 580ex. I'm having a hard time finding a replacement part, other than B&H and a couple of other places that sell a flimsy piece of plastic for $10. Seems overpriced.

I've emailed a few scientific companies and searched ebay and amazon. No real luck yet. The specs needed to replace the lens seem to be flexible fresnel with a focal distance somewhere between 6 and 8.5 inches, and the material will need to be in at least 4" x 6" sections to fit the mount.

Anyone ever replaced this themselves before?

Thanks.

Thanks Jim, yes they do have the replacement part in their store as well. I'm shopping around to see if I can beat the typical $10-$15 (marked up) price that is given by camera retailers. Getting the part from a scientific retailer should get the replacement lenses for $0.50-$3 a piece, I'm looking to buy several.

Wish I knew B&h/naturescapes supplier! I'm hoping to find someone who has replaced the lens on their Better Beamer firsthand, or possibly know a person who did. Getting the correct specs and finding a distributor would save all nature photographers a chunk of change.

Dude...Seriously its $10 from Naturescapes! Isn't your time worth more? I know mine is! I definitely don't have time to track down a fresnel lens from Scientific companies online!

I'm sure I will need more than one in my lifetime, so it's not just $10. I'm into educated consumerism in general and don't like paying a 1000% markup when avoidable.

That won't work, thanks for looking though. The specs should be a focal distance of ~ 6-8.5", in 4" x 6" sections. I think the focal length and power of most consumer magnifiers isn't going to cut, because I've bought some before and it doesn't direct the flash whatsoever.

$10, and getting what you need right off the bat, seems the obvious winner... ;)

If you'd like, I can also offer you gumballs for sale for $5 each. Delivered right to your door step!!!

Let's get this thread back on track folks. If you know of specifications or distributors for the correct part, let me know.

Sorry, just trying to make the point that by going OEM you'd be assured of getting the right product. No offense intended.

OTOH, if I were in need of a gum ball, and just had to have one, I probably wouldn't spend $15 of my time trying to find one if you'd be willing to deliver one to my doorstep for just $5. Good luck with your search...
